yeah surfed here about 10 years ago, doesnt get much bigger than 2ft but fun little waves at kata and just north of patong is a righthand reef break, mostly only surfable in wet season so most days are windy… but an added attraction to include with the food, nightlife and the women!
it seems like the surf co’s are making inroads into thailand. that link (above) mentioned the rip curl grom contest, and this week they have their own Quikky Pro going on
Yep… Surfing Thailand has been operating for almost 20 years now… I’m there right now judging the “best event”
Direct flights from bali, Singapore , taiwan etc make it an easy destination for our ASC tour, almost no cobra, Surftech in sight… In fact the percentage is much less than in Oz…
I spent a week in Phuket last year, and had surf everyday between 2 and 4 ft, fun beachbreaks, some reefs around as well but the swell wasnt big enough. Real fun nightlife, ridiculous amount of girls, great food, cheaper and Indo. Obviously there are better places in Asia to surf but my idea of holiday hell is floating around the mentawis stuck on a boat with 10 stinking other guys drinking beer, talking it up, no girls no escape and forked out a small fortune for the experience.
