I am repairing a snapped Laird Surftech SUP - Ron House shape - 11’ x 27" x 4.25" and ideally would like to know the nose and tail rocker measurements in order to restore it properly.
Can anyone help?
No idea, but I bet you'd have better success asking on one of the SUP forums, like http://www.standupzone.com/
There have been some good posts in the past on methods for rebuilding broke-in-half boards, and I think it was chipfins posted pictures of a jig. And IIRC SDRepairman had a whole thread on one of his rebuilds. Or maybe it was ChrisP. Man, I forget who it was now, but....mighta been StingRay. Hahaha, the brain is a leaky vessel, eh?
Anyway, search around you might find some useful info.
I have always trusted the eye - if you have a jig or method that allows you to step back, view from a bit of a distance, and from several different angles. The eye don't lie! Besides, I'd rather have it look right, and be wrong, that be right and look wrong LOL!
Post up some photos of your rebuild if you feel so inclined, its a subject of interest here on Swaylocks.
Just out of curiosity, how does one break an 11’ Surftech SUP? Either by accident, or hardcore surf, there has to be good story behind that one.
Thanks Huckleberry for this.
I have registered on the SUP forum but will have to wait for approval before posting.
I am using the advice of The Board Lady for my repair. Very helpful. http://www.boardlady.com/
Yes instinct does say trust the eye. I am able to align the board in what I think is an aesthetic functional rocker. Was concerned about getting bogged down with numbers for numbers sake.
I have been taking photos and will post htem here soon.
There is a story jcyoungquist.
The board belonged to a friend of mine who used it to ride the Severn Bore. I then made him a custom 10’ board and he gave the SUP to his son to ride the bore with. First day on the river on the board son got a good ride but then the board got stuck between the river bank and a nasty steel post / RSJ in the water a few feet away. The force of the water going upstream bent and creased the board around the post. If not for the rubber deck pad the board would have completely broken in 2 pieces. A hardcore ding yes.
