ROLL CALL! Who was at the Cerritos Workshop?

Hey all,

I know there were a bunch of you at the workshop. We had name tags but they had our actual names on them.

Maybe we should’ve put our SwayNames on the tags too. There about 30 or so there.

Were you there?

I was there! Whaddaya gunna make with the blank you won?

Tim Surf4fins

Hey surf4fins,

I wish I would’ve thought to get a group shot. Then we could label it.

Good question about the board. As you saw, I’m not young or small. At 220 lbs. and 43 years, there aren’t too many shapes I can make from a 6’8" blank that will work for me. Maybe a thick fish. I spoke to Ken about it, I’m going to upgrade to a larger blank. I’ve got some ideas about a larger performance shape. I still have to flush out the design. I want something loose and carvy. Maybe I’ll try Bill Thrailkill’s parallel fin design.

to do Bill’s design would be very cool!!!

Picture would have been a great idea. Oh well. I was there, got some really useful information from Bill about making fin boxes after the talks were done with. Thanks! At the rate I’m going, that will happen in about two months. In the meantime, still trying to figure out where to put that trunk full of balsa strips… my roof racks are buried underneath somewhere. It was a fun time, glad I made the trip down. I ended up driving the entire way back on highway 1 on sunday. Had planned on camping out at plasket creek, but when I got there realized that I had spent my cash on lunch, and you can’t use plastic at the campground. 11 hours of driving with a one hour surf at sand dollar. Remind me not to do that again (the drive, not the surf)

Pat

Did you catch that north you were expecting?

I’m thinking about trying to make something really skatey and loose. If his design carries the speed throught the turn the way he says, it should fit what I’m hoping for. Again, it’ll be my first so I’ll be brainstorming for a while. I was thinking single fin before Saturday. Now maybe parallel? Who knows.

I’ve got two broken longboards to fix before I get serious. I will be thinking shape all along though and consulting the wisdom of others.

I was there, learned some key information. I also learned that a local joint that makes surfboards has more than meets the eye so I’m super fortunate.

so , what was taught ?

what did you all learn ?

like to share what specifically you learnt ?

cheers ,

ben

Hi Ben,

It was video taped. We’ll let you know when and how it’s available.

thanks Tim !

yes , I saw that at the last minute , on the “sticky” thread on ‘Cerritos’ and responded there, also…

cheers

ben

Maybe next time we will do a better job on the introductions prior to starting the forum. It seems like there is just never enough time!!!

Thanks!!!

Nice. Clean blue water is hard to find.

How cold was it? Oh wait, I’m asking a guy from Santa Cruz. Cold doesn’t exist. Just kidding.

Did you have it all to yourself?

I planned on going with a buddy of mine but the confirmation email came about a month after i sent mine. I guess i could have called, but alas, i was unable to go last minute. Hope it was fun, looking forward to that video footage.

Having the opportunity to hear Bill, Ace and Rich speak on design was an outstanding way to spend a Saturday morning.

These guys gave us all a great gift.

I was unable to stay for the networking due to a previous engagement.

Which is a shame as I would have enjoyed meeting everyone there…

This was a first class event.

Cerritos College, Terry, Ken and crew did an excellent job.

I am looking forward to the next one.

Magoo (don’t let newbie fool ya)

Hi, I’m Magoo and I’m a Swayholic…

water was warm, and there were a few other people there. It’s a pretty popular spot on the weekends.

by the way, the water in santa cruz is usually pretty warm too. It doesn’t really get cold untill you get north a bit.

pat.
