I’m a rookie. Using Resin Research Epoxy. Doing pretty good with it. Very easy to work with. No funes. Much easier than poly. My laminating and laps are good. I’m sanding the laps smooth and taking down as many lumps and strings as I can with 10 grit without hurting the cloth or going into the weave. However, while I use the prescibed amounts (volume) for the hot coat, I can’t get it to provide enough thickness to fully cover the weave and allow me to sand that one hot coat down as the final coat. I’m covering the lam well, but it’s not just dripping off the rails. Must I also do a second hot coat/gloss coat following the sanding of the hot coat, or am I doing something wrong (as I suspect)? I’m just trying to avoid a second (gloss coat) and end up with a sanded finish. Thanks for any help out there.
Greg: What type of cloth (weight, weave, finish etc.) are you using? Which Resin Research hardener are you using? fast/20 min. pot life or slow/ 50 min. pot life? I’ve been using the slow and am ready to try the fast or least blend the fast/slow for some control over improved set times. Tom S.
I’m using standard bleached 6 oz, 2 on top 1 on bottom. Slow hardner.
