Router bit for O'Fishl Fins

I am in dire need of a bit for the original fin boxes made by ofishl. none of my local hardware stores have one to fit the boxes. If anyone has a used one i could buy instead of buying a new one from them for 80 bux that would be great thanx for your help!

jj, 80 bucks sounds absolutely abusive. sorry i’ve never used o’fishl, but i found this site, routerbits.com. i’m including the link to the page where they show the various bit profiles. maybe what you’re looking for is here: http://www.routerbits.com/cgi-routerbits/loadpage.cgi?986579029_5339+profile.htm

I didn’t have the bucks either. I bought a bit online (www.trend-lines.com) and ground off the tip to make it work. I maded my own jig/guide out of aluminum. The O’Fishl line has the best long fin box made (IMHO). I found the side fin boxes very difficult to install without the specific jigs and bits made for the job. I abandoned using them because without the proper tools each one was a risk in screwing up the blank. At the time the box with the snaps was not out yet, I think the newest design uses a different bit than the earlier design. You might try a glass shop locally, probably do it for a fraction of a new bit.>>> I am in dire need of a bit for the original fin boxes made by ofishl. none > of my local hardware stores have one to fit the boxes. I have the whole set-up for both the side boxes with bits, gauges, router, etc.I might sell it to the right person. The reason the bits are so costly is they’re carbide.Herb.

How much would youy think bout selling it for? Would you conisder just selling the bit? also for ramon and tom which bis did you buy from those places online?

jj, i never brought anything from routerbits.com…i just thought they had a pretty varied selection where you might find the right bit…which i think is a ‘V’ type bit…but i may be wrong regards

No,but I wouldbe willing to sell all the jigs, bits, etc.less the router.

JJ- I bought a chamfer bit, they come in varying angles. Best of my recollection was a 22 degree. Take an O’fishl box and check that angle though. As I said I had to grind off the tip of the bit to work. I got the bit to cut a perfect hole for the earlier box (never used the newer snap version). The trick is in aligning and routing the hole EXACTLY where you want it. You don’t have the rigid fiberglass to help with the drift, and that carbide bit cuts foam like butter. Tom.
