Rubbing Compound? Clear Acryllic? Fixing blems in Sanding Coat

Ok I’ve got my HWS almost finished. I have a sanding coat finished. Regular resin. I’m eager and low on money to complete this board, but I’ve got some lines and blemishes that really should be sanded down. This nice sand coat is really pretty decent, but sanding will ruin what I have. I’ve seen folks wet sand. I’m interested in spraying acrylic as I’ve seen in videos. Will that take away the cloudiness that sanding brings? Suggestions.

Hey Drussell,

Go ahead and sand down the blemishes with 320. Spot spray the weave sections with acrylic (or if you want spray the whole board but we generally just spot spray). Wet sand laterially with 400 then 600. This will give you what we call a tooled finish. We like this better then the pure acrylic finish. If you want more of the acrylic finish look take a scotch brite pad and put it on your sander and go over the whole board knocking down the finish to an acrylic look.

Howzit T., Knocking down the acrylic finish with a Scotch Brite pad also makes for a speedier finish. Easy test is after applying acrylic try sliding a rag across the bottom, doesn’t hardly move. Now after using Scotch pad the rag will slide right off the board. The only difference is I don’t use spray but water based acrylic from a gallon bottle that I apply with a sponge.Aloha,Kokua
