My friend is going to Johannesburg next month , wondering where to surf n would like to buy or custom order a few boards . Any recommendation local shaper or surf shop ?

Did you look at a map, no surf in Joh’burg, nearest surf is several hours drive.
Apart from the other famous and crowded spots, I got good waves in Richards Bay if you’re up that way.

you wont find much in jo’burg bru… and what you may find you won’t like, let alone what may find you… check www.wavescape.co.za for some good starting points…
When your friend lands in Joburg he should get on the next plane to Cape Town. Do a bit of the culture and then start up the coast with the first stop at Still Bay then Cape St Francis, J-Bay and then the Wild Coast. SA has loads of good shapers try Dutchie,Glen DaArcy,glen Row,lazy B, Baron,Safari (Al Merrick of SA). I dont think you will find any boards in Joburg.

There is a shop in the 4ways mall shopping centre, sells clothes, a lot of skate stuff, and surprisingly boards. It’s in Midrand, between J’burg and Pretoria.

i’ve been shaping for …let me think …20 years, can get you what you need but i relaly do hope you get out of JHB fast and down to cape town and do the drive up the garden route to J-Bay, it’s really worth it. cheers
