Here is another concept board. Silent but deadly is the nickname of the f117 stealth, if you’re a composite junky its the tits. So had another trash can slam blank (Dow/ 1#) no cork stringers. Did a tapered “flow flex” frame where the nose is carbon biax, under center is carbon dyed fg hybrid braid which is less stiff, tail is carbon fg braid, half as stiff as biax. There is spread tow uni tying all the tapered laps together and stiffening underfoot, to me they look like suspenders. Fins are twinzers loosely based on the f117, Vac bagged at under 3oz. I just think boards like these deserve fins built like this. The one-upper would be stoked on the stiffness. Exposed cork, 2mm nl20. Double concave deckside tail only. Fluted swallow with a mean hip. Flat deck old school feesh rails. 5’9",13 5/8, 18 3/4, 14 5/8, 2 1/16. Finished weight 4lb 9oz, not bad considering all the heavy Dow foam. This one is for my friend gabe kling.
super killer board. nice fuller nose and width carried aft with that HARD hip tightening up the tail. the funniest thing is the contrast from top to bottom. from the deck it looks all organic-- as in earthy, but from the bottom it’s all organic, as in chemistry.
full tech, to be sure. how “flexy” does it feel in hand? all that carbon makes you think stiff, but obviously you’ve engineered in differential flex with the materials. tech plus really nice cosmetics-- it’s not easy at all, and you’re making it look so simple.
Drew, did you ever do a molded-in track pad for Expo? Seems like I remember you mentioning something about it in one of your threads. Would love to see pics of that if it got built.
Tom was saying the non-glassed cork deck worked really well on the SUPs. Might have to try that on my next Floatey Fish :D.
