S-Cores and Surfburgers

Let’s dispell the myths and define the facts in this thread. In light of the fiasco with Clark Foam, I know many of us are wanting to know more about the up and coming technology that can be seen in the Salomon S-Cores and the Surfbugers. From what little bit I’ve been able to find about the Surfburgers, they seem to be quite similar in construction to the S-Core, but I’d like to know more about them as well.

I’ve been very interested in the Salomon S-Core technology for a while now and I think this is an excellent time to investigate it as a legitimate alternative. I want to hear from those who are in the “know” and from those who’ve had hands-on experience with them. I’m aware of what the build materials are and how they’re constructed, but I haven’t heard any real solid feedback because they’re simply not very common in the lineup here in Wilimington, NC. As I recall in a previous conversation, they’re not cheap (~$750+ USD) and require quite a bit of time to build, but again, this could all be hearsay. I’d like to see some solid figures in these regards. I’d also like to hear some suggested demensions in terms of width and thickness as I’m certain these sticks offer more buoyancy and a desired amount of flex among other things. From the photos that I’ve seen of Kieren Perrow, he’s obviously an S-Core believer and the guy simply charges, but I’m curious to know why we’re not seeing more guys ride 'Cores. I’d also like to hear about fin options; the only fin system that I’ve seen used on an S-Core is FCS.

I’ve done my best to navigate their webpage - www.salomonscore.com - but it’s a flash-plug nightmare of endless buffering. I know Greg Webber is an S-Core shaper and I know he’s a regular poster on this forum, so I’m especially looking forward to his input, as well as Greg Loehr’s and anyone else who has the facts. I know this has been lightly covered, but my search didn’t turn up a great deal of info.

Im no expert, my friend, but I think the difference between Berts and Salomons are that the Salaomons are hollow for weight reduction whereas Berts blanks are highly tuned, by numerous different design features, for performance. I think all Salomons are basically the same and the only difference would be in the shaping, whereas Berts are already possesing design/performance benefits, specifically for surfing, before shaping begins.

All you ever wanted to know about the S-Core. Just had a call from a friend who just tried one, said they were ‘interesting’ but not worth the money.
