"Sabs" returns !

…just met Mike , his wife Julie , and their two young’uns , Jessica and Joseph .

Really nice family …it was great to meet , and have a chat !

He brought a few of his boards to show me . Very good looking (and light) boards , I must say !

Needless to say , a camera materialised into my hand , (now how did that get THERE , I wonder ? ) …so, I hope you all enjoy the shots !

cheers !

ben

hopefully Hicksy , Lavz, and a few other west aussies …backyarder ? bluejuice? might get to catch up with them . He’s in town for a little while , and is planning another trip down south soon …

okay , here’s a few of Mike’s boards …

[the one on the right has divinycell [sp?] in it.]

And here’s the obligatory shot for those who get off on photos of people standing on their upside down boards. [I believe boards are actually supposed to be stood on in the water , with the fins down ]…

yes , Mike makes all his own fins , too. And boardbags. He just doesn’t blow his own trumpet too loudly about it . Thankfully.

Mike and Joe …

father and son surf team , how good is that ?!

the woods used in that rocket look SENSATIONAL , when you see them in the flesh… darn , I should have taken a closeup !

Mike’s fins …

I LOVED the finish on these boards …hope when my stitches are out to be able to try them out , please Mike ?

…I can’t believe that when Mike offers them to his kiwi mates at home to ride , that they knock him back !!! [Ant , whoever you are , good on ya for riding them !! …Please post up a report on how they ride one day , if you are “lurking” here !]

cheers !

ben

Nice work Mike!

Onya Chip, we like photos.!!

Hope you get some good waves in Aus Sabs.

Josh.

This is what really gets me stoked!

Functional and undeniably beautiful art.

Kudos sabs!

Thanks for showing em to us chipper.

no worries Doug !

like I say , Mike , Julie and the kids will be down south again this week but, hopefully , we might be able to catch up for a barbecue at Hicksy’s next week ? [and maybe I can get something like a “moonrocket” , “auslocks” , sab’s boards , quiver shot ? … see what happens anyway , eh ?]

cheers !

ben

Cool. We can expect more piccies, then

BTW. If you are ever nuts enough to drive east you are more than welcome to recuperate in Adelaide for a day or so over a beer  And if the Auslocks board ever needs to stop by over here… :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

hi ben

not trying to hijack thread.

Mike your boards are beautiful

just want to explain why people (especially good surferes are resistant to even trying these boards)

for some reason i dont know

epoxy boards had a bad name

mybe from a bunch of badly built boards in the past and popouts

board makers payed out all sorts of crap on guys that built with epoxy

they were label eastereggs etc

fuuny how if a poly board breaks that it was the wave or the bad landing

but if an epoxy board broke it was allways the materials fault

some surfers are such dumb F3%ers that they dont even know that epoxy is the resin used (this is true)

now this isnt an arument against the materials at all.

IF

for the last 10 years your local hotties have gone along with the mags and what there local builders tell them. They have sure as hell, labeld anyone riding a surftech or epoxy board as KOOK.no question. they have ridden one maybe once

labeled it TO STIFF, TO LIGHT blah blah blah

okay so now someone comes along that makes brilliiant epoxy styro composites

they look great, are light .bulshit strong and surf good as well

and i know this from experience .(i have a best friend that refuses to ride one of my boards.i had to twist my other friend arms)

the biggest bagger and mouth of all would die before they rode one or even admitted they were good. they do try and discourage anyone in their GANG to not ride one.

and why

simple

they would be finally proven to be the ignorant big mouths that they really are .industry SL"##TS.consumeristic image concious suckers.

label freaks .

not bagging poly boards… as ive been surfing them for twenty years and that experience has been incredbly rewarding and joyful.

i still ride them from time to time

im just not into building them because i want a more DURABLE surfboard

wow, that’s subtle , Dougy !

…I think it would cost more than “a beer” to drive it the 2000 miles to you, unfortunately, but thanks for the …er… ‘offer’, mate ! [darn , those monkeys are meant to be laughing ! laugh , gifs, laugh ! ]

[I’m hoping one of the Viccos will find it in their hearts to do the 8-12 hour drive west for you , actually Dougy boy ! [“fishexp” ? “antsville” ??..I’m looking at YOU !!!]

cheers !

ben

LOL! Joshing aside it’s a legit offer. If you are crazy enough to head to vicco or qld by car and decide to stop over in crumby ole Adelaide for a rest let me shout you a beer.

I can occasionally get a board from Adelaide to the East coast - whether it’s Tas, Vic or Qld depends on which relatives visit me that year. So if you desperately want to get it on it’s way but can only get it to Adl I may be able to get it the rest of the way… Even if someone has to collect it from an east coast airport. Would I ride it? heh Do I come across THAT stupid

Cheers!

-doug

the itinerary for the Auslocks board so far is :

starts at agnes waters .

And heads south .

As people DRIVE it to the next destination.

so , it reaching you would be dependent on the Viccos doing their bit .

good points Silly .

wow , I hijack my OWN threads !

ben

Always heard that you “jack” yourself. Didn’t know it was “high”, tho :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Anyway, drop in for a beer if you are ever round. The balcony’s great and I can see my local break nicely from it…

-doug

my new avatar [to the left of here now] …isn’t THAT the view from your balcony , Dougy ???

I jest [well, I HOPE it’s not true , if I DO come to visit you !!

ben [I think you are getting me confused with “Sirw****alot”, by the way , ‘Rubberlove’…er …Doug !]

Hey Ben,

Give a personal ‘thanks’ to Mike for me…he’s been very helpfull…always liked his individuality and impressive results.

Mike is the ‘hobbyest’ balsa compsand ice-breaker…king of garage dweller kings.

Cheers
