i read a post the other day that said a surfer bled to death in nias after his femoral artery was sliced by his fin. i know this is a freak accident, but other than pro-tek or something with a rubber trailing edge, there is probably no way to tune a trailing edge that would prevent this, considering the forces at work, is there?

If there was a major severing of the femoral artery, there is little chance help could have come in time, you have about 3 minutes until you bleed to death
If there was a major severing of the femoral artery, there is little > chance help could have come in time, you have about 3 minutes until you > bleed to death …Had there been someone on the boat(I take it)with a well rounded medical background, the hemoraging could have been stopped(possibly),as far as saving a life? That’s up to …you know.Herb …I tried some safety type fins, and I didn’t care for there performance. …I built a board w/ glasson fins for a friend awhile back, and he required several sutures after going over the falls with the fin stuck in his rectum(OUCH).His recovery was painfully slow, but on a up note ,the fin didn’t break off.Herb

Also a case for no leash…or bodysurfing

Some of my friends and I have used pro-teks; seemed to work fine.
