I was talking to Brendan at HDX yesterday. He said he would let a novice boardbuilder design a board on computer screen, (with Brendan working the mouse and keyboard), then CNC shape the board, for the customer to finish. If the customer wanted, HDX would stringer trim the nose and tail, router out the leash plug, install Future fin boxes, etc.
All someone would need for the finish shaping is a small block plane, and sanding block with screen. The board could then be taken to a glass shop, or “learned on”.
The point I’d like to make is;If the board was a basic foil, good outline and bottom contours, (with custom spec’s. but nothing experimental), though it might not be pretty when completed, almost certainly, the surfer would have a good riding board.Though costlier, a better option than throwing good money after bad.
