Does ANYONE know ANYTHING about old sailboard-type blanks? History/use/value? Possibly 6-10 years old? Possibly more? Possibly 15’+ in length?
Clark foam made two models, but neither close to 15’.
I THINK (as in not sure, don’t know for sure) one was just over 9’, the other just over 10’.
What company blank.
The longest windsurfer ever made was 13’6" custom by Naish for Course Racing, everything else more like 12’4".
And shortboards go from 10’ down to 7’8".
Clark foam. About 15’4". Two stringers about 4" apart. 6" to 7" inches thick. Robin Prodanovich possibly? Anyone?
these ones are 9’11 x 25 x 6-7" thick …they were freebies for us …
They are Midget Farrelly blanks . (“Surfblanks” , “pineapple scented” , too [!!] ) They ALSO featured two stringers , a fair width apart …
hicksy made a “moonrocket” and the "auslocks " board from them ! [ keen…]
cheers !

p.s. - check your “messages” box in the left hand side of this page mate … I sent you a “private message” with more details too. [Sorry I don’t know what yours would be worth , by the way]
The largest blank I can remember from the Clark catalog was the 13’1" “fishboard” blank. Ambrose told me he still has a couple. I vaguely remember there being some sailboard blanks mixed in with the surfboard blanks in the old catalogs. Even recently there was an 8’8" by Karl Hill that guys like Terry Chung were using to make thick surfboards.
Maybe there was a separate sailboard catalog? I never heard of one as big as you describe but that doesn’t mean they didn’t make 'em.
I have a 1997 CLARK catalog that features a 8’8"H and a 9’2"H, both plugs shaped by Karl HILL. Sorry, my scanner is out of order: I would have posted them, but…
…and I just forgot this one: 13’1" by Rick NAISH and Harold IGGY.
“History: originally made for very large sailboards. Used for making Hawaiian Fishboards. Now used for several purposes including plugs for molds. Very limited volume. Not available in ultralight or superlight.”
“Comments: for large sailboards and paddleboards. Originally designed for large racing sailboards. Later converted rocker for racing paddleboards. For racing suggest using the lighter weight foams. Also suggest that other rockers can be made to change performance.”
13’1 sailboards blank.I shaped a 12’10" longboard out of one.The blank was old when I got it back 1992.
Very flat tail rocker and about 6" thick.2 stringers,a fin box width apart.
I searched some more and fell upon an even older CLARK catalog: February 1990.
Featured in this one are 3 blanks in the 13’ range:
-One is the 13’1" by Rick NAISH and Harold IGGY
-One is another 13’1" “Hawaiian Fish Board” by Pia HALEMANO, made from the first adding a foam insert to make it wider.
-And a 13’2" by Mickey FREMONT: “History: the original “Pan Am” style sailboard blank. A very old blank from another period in the evolution of sailboards. We keep this blank only because it is unique in this size range and has no replacements.” “Comments: Currently used for tandem boards and paddle/rescue boards as well as sailboards.”

Phew - It’s kinda scary getting a thrill from my own history. Dug through my files (that pile of shit is a blessing and a curse) and found an old Clark catalog - 9/86, not quite 20 years old. It’s an interesting read - everything from Greg Loehr’s 5’9" to Mickey Fremont’s 13’2" “Pan Am” paddle/sailboard blank.
Here’s a couple of pics for those who missed it.
If anybody is interested, I can copy the catalog.
I also have a complete rocker catalog from 1/11/01 which is 103 pages thick.
PM me… maybe a t-shirt or something would cover my costs?
Ive never seen someone glass a 13ft board but I get this funny picture in my head of someone sprinting back and fourth in a total spaz trying to get it laminated and laps tucked before the resin gels…
"epoxy …‘’
my god , did I really just type that ??
uh oh
"Dr., help me !! " chip
Chip,
Were you trying to type “ePOXy” ? Or “e-POX-y” ? Can you clarify, the Dr. is here to help.
John, those are awesome.
In 1986, I was a junior in high school, surfing a 6’3" Sea Tunes (lam was a musical note!) thruster at Stinson & OB. Never gave a thought to how a board was made or what it was made of. Fixed dings with bondo. You just filled in a really nice little piece of history for me, thanks.
A glasser gets used to it…
I can laminate a double 4 with 6oz knee patch 9’6" gun in about 10 minutes.
Have seen Haut’s glasser laminate FOUR 8’ sized funboards with ONE batch of poly resin, kicked off well within 15 minutes.
RalphEhni, our old glasser and famous for LocalMotions pyschomodelic air brushes did a comic routine glassing two boards with one batch of resin, usually gelled in about 15 minutes. The comic routine included running outside the shop, going to the bathroom (to pee), and other time killing stuff…
You are just slow.

Thanx for the info. I’ll get more measurements. Looks like a Hawaii fishboard but longer. Perhaps a 13’1 + 2’ for some reason?
4 1/2 years later. Cooperfish. 15’ 5".
