San Diego area in Feb...

Northern Californian heading south; I’ll be staying at San Elijo State Beach for 5 nights with my wife, end of January beginning of February. She wants to see the zoo, Sea World and the Wild Animal Park, hopefully I get to do some surfing. So… if it was your first time surfing around San Diego and you only had a couple of sessions to enjoy the area, where would you go???

It was my first time there last February. I have to say the early morning surf at Sunset Cliffs was the highlight for me. But I’m told it’s fickle. Plenty of places to stop on the way down also. San Clemente is a must, drop into Icons of Surf and drool, pick up some cheap gear in the rip curl outlet, they had a sale in feb, then maybe a surf in Trestles if your lucky.

Enjoy

You are staying at the right place. Within walking distance to a couple of nice reefs and of course Cardif right there you have it made. Swamis is just up the beach and is a “must surf” spot. Seaside is also down about a mile. It’s a fun spot if there are waves.

Are you going to be riding boards you’ve made? That makes surfing so much better!

Have a great time.
