you're about 45 minutes or less to surf SCboy... but, i have to agree with Rooster...
do your best in school and get a good job that will support your lifestyle...
wish i had done that

hey Sc - I agree w/rooster also - look down the line, so to speak, & hit the books
but… have you thought about windsurfing - you’re minutes (literally go west for 15 minutes and your at the pier) from primo windsurf territory
you can pick one up off craigslist super cheap & sometimes even free
or make one!!!
ya might dig it - at least for the next 4 years!
Well, maybe I’m better at giving advice than following it. My choices were stay in school in San Diego, UC Santa Barbara, and UC Santa Cruz. I chose SC BECAUSE of the surf. But, I soon found out in order to maintain my mediocre grades I needed to work my ass off. In other words, the occasional weekend surf and holidays. No way was I wasting mom and dad’s hard earned money to give me the shot at college. The ultimate goal was always to live and work near the ocean so I could keep surfing. I married a gal I met at UC(no hairy pits or legs, gentlemen) that was smarter and more ambitious than me. 30 years later, she’s the doctor, two kids, house, dogs, and I teach little kids and surf at every opportunity. Living the Dream! Get to class and CHARGE IT, scboy!! Mike
As a UCSB alum, I’m partial to that choice…and the academic rep is way better now than it was when I went there…and there’s nothing like living in Isla Vista. However, all that’s been said about the flat spells and negative side of the “distractions” of Gaucho life are true. The waves are more consistent and varied here in SC, but the scene is a little less hospitable to outsiders than UCSB was when I was there…and of course the water is colder. Again, choose academics first…you’re only there for a few years and you’ll get good waves at any of those schools. RE: board building…you could do that anywhere now that you can buy materials mail order, so hopefully that isn’t going to be a primary deciding factor for you.
