San Francisco in Autumn / Fall

Would I be better wearing a 4/3 or 3/2 in October/November

i assume Santa Barbara would call for the same?

4/3 in Santa Barbara by November.

Pink Power, pls tell me you’re a gal…lol

4/3 at OB in Oct, might need a 5/3 towards end of Nov for the am sessions if the offshores are up

Well, really depends on how warm you run. I rarely ever want less than a 4/3 from Santa Cruz northwards. I can spend most of the year in a seam sealed 3/2 in Ventura (though it is SO warm right now, boardshorts and a wetsuit top are the name of the game). My lady, on the other hand, can get cold in a 5/4 on the same day I’m wearing a leaky 3/2. The women I know in Santa Cruz love 5/4s all winter, the dudes mostly 4/3s. Water temps from SC north will likely be low 50s by November/December, down in Santa Barbara, could be anywhere from low 50s to low 60s (and sometimes depends on the day/tide). Surfline usually lists the water temperature on the camera pages…so it would be worth checking before packing.

If it were me, I’d have a 4/3, boots, gloves, and hood…you can always leave pieces in the car if the water is warmer than you are prepared for.

As long as we’re asking favors, please tell me you’re 5’-11", dark hair, blue gray eyes… Oh yea, and you have a weakness for old carpenters.

4/3-----5/4/3 with a hood and boots at OB on the north swell-offshore days. The water can dip into the 40f-50F range. On the south swells- or the places you can get out without getting your hair wet 4/3 is the call. I don’t know any locals in SF that own a 3/2.

I am a local.  I use a 3/2 June to September on most days and a 4/3 the rest of the year.  It rarely gets below 48 and that is in the spring with the upwelling.
