San Luis Obispo area glassers

I just shaped my first board and I’ve decided that I want it to look as nice and last as long as possible, so I’m not going to try to glass this one myself. The only problem is that I’m having trouble finding someone in the SLO area that I trust and that is taking single boards from random people like me. Central Coast Fiberglass does all of the repairs for most of the shops in the area, but everyone tells me the they’re not looking for anymore business right now. I’m looking for someone that installs Lokbox boxes, is good at retro style resin tints, and is reasonably priced. If nobody knows of anyone around my area I’m willing to go down to Santa Barbara.

Any guidance is greatly appreciated

thanks

clyde beatty products in sb good slow expensive

now who has time for the walk in the park w/ a first timer’s board? Do it yourself. I’d bet Clyde would do it if you had your s— together.

there’s not much profit in a resin tinted, pinlined, gloss and polish Wayne

rich longboard for $750.00. Slow’s ok if it’s good. expensive? I don’t think so.

take a shaped blank to be glassed then tell me what u think on cost 250 and a 2-3 month wait but if you have tons of dinero who cares

So let’s ask Austin what he would charge for a “retro” resin tint, pins, gloss/polish, fin boxes?

or anyone for that matter. how many man hours do you think it takes for a first class job? What’s your over head? or, are you a garage glasser.

like i said, you could glass it yourself, spend more time for free…

guys like Clyde make more money selling board bags than high end longboards.

Easternpacific,

Austin said give him the length, glassing schedule, type of cloth, leash setup, and pigment colors and he will get back with you.

Sincerely,

TSaunders

Well…I can see the guy’s point of view about getting his shape glassed by a shop. Not everybody is poor and a few hundred bucks is no big deal.Glassing can be a big messy pain and perhaps he has no interest in learning or maybe is too busy working.Nowadays when I shape a board I send it out for glassing and I can glass pretty good.

Tim-

I used to glass a lot around the Central Coast and know Aaron at CCF well. He is usually busy with contract work. (hint…bring a 12 pack of good beer and tell him you don’t need it yesterday and don’t call every day asking about progress) You may want to look up Dennis Parks at Baywood Surfboards in Los Osos. Dennis does very good work at standard rates.

A personal note from someone who used to glass many boards for beginning shapers…Keep the stringer down!!!

Good Luck,

Dave Jorgenson

I plan on trying it myself somtime, but it was already a strech to shape the board on my apartment’s back porch and I’m not too excited to try my first glass job back there.

As far as money goes, I would much rather do it myself for cheaper, as I am a poor 23 year old. But with a $50 blank and a good $250 dollar glass job, I’m still going to be getting a cheaper board than a new fish off the racks.

How it rides will obviously be a different story, but I’m more excited about that than worried.
