San O Funboard?

Looking to drop below the 9’ 0" range at San O and need recommendations…38 yrs old, 2-3days a week, looking for something that will equate to fun for 170lb senior citizen looking to liven things up…have always surfed 9’2" plus…don’t want to make too big a jump and take the “fun” out of “fun board”? Suggestions?

7’ 10’’ x 22’‘, or even out to 23’’ wide, square tail.

I think Bill suggestion is perfect.

Just keep it thicker and wider side so you can get into the wave early.

Hi Bill

I’m thinking right in the middle at 22.5.

Also a great alternative to a LB I think are those Super fishes / Giant fishes (whatever you want to call them).

You could but a decent size swallow on that and go with either a Twinzer or a Quad and still pull the nose in to about 16 - 16.5. intead of it being a mini-lb with a full round nose. Currently this is what I’m doing then riding 9’0" or a 9’2" lb in LB type of waves. (At least latly)

Cheers

-B~

I don’t understand the Superfish thing… If I was gonna go that route, I’d go with a Merrick M13 knockoff in the 7’8 range.

Either a single fin Egg or an M13 thruster… that’s what I call “fun”…

Bill,

You affirmed what I was considering…length and width…any suggestion on how thick I can go without getting too corky? Thanks to you and the other respondents.

I don’t think an M13 would do the trick for San O. Something like this might work,

although you may want a little more thickness

Or if you have some money to spend see the attached.

I just don’t understand, where do you want this board to surf?

Dogpatch?

The Point?

Old Mans?

If you are on anything shorter than 9’0" you are on the inside

and in the way! Do you want to catch less waves per session?

There are right boards for right spots and wrong boards for

wrong spots.

If you want to surf shorter, try Trails and go with 7’ 10" or so.

Stay under 22" wide or right there. Talk to locals in the stops

like Stewarts. You can’t go wrong with local advice. Don’t

listen to the young ripper tho.

Hope to see ya in the lineup, I like outside Old Mans & Dogpatch

with light surfski action.

Kickout,

At your age and weight I was riding 7’ 10’’ x 21 1/2’’ x 3 5/8’’ thick. At 22’‘, I’d suggest 3 1/2’‘. At 23’‘, 3 3/8’'. I required that the boards I rode, paddle fast, and catch waves easily. I’m not sure what you will consider corky. I considered the above described board to be adequate to my needs, with respect to floatation.
