Sander for epoxy

Aloha UncleD,

Homedepot has xylene and cheap. Its in the paint section. I used xylene as an epoxy thinner.

I use the champagne on my makita 7" sander polisher with with powerpads/flexpads to flatten and smooth down most of the areas. I just hate the dust cloud it makes since I have skin allergies to fiberglass dust. So I sand outside in a hooded tyvek with gloves and a 3M 7000 full face mask.

Otherwise I have a festools rotex 125 with a CT22 vacuum setup but the head surface area is too small to get a good flat surface.

Howzit oneula, OK,for my 7" Makita I use F.H.'s Hermes sand paper with tacky glue they sell, lots better than most. I know it lasts about 3 times longer than what you can get at a hardware store. Aloha,Kokua

yeh I like and usethe white Hermes too as well as the black Fincat from finland but BammBamm and Matt Campbell clued me in on Champagne which for both FH epoxy and urethane based ResinX which is more rubbery and heat sensitive than epoxy. Its hard to get there’s only a couple places maybe one in Hawaii that you can get it. Norton makes alot of abrasive for Automotive industry detail pros that aren’t normally known to the surfboard industry.

Festools has alot of expensive specialty paper as well for clear coat sanding and polishing but I have a hard time trying to get an even finish with a 5.25 diameter sander like the rotex unless I’m doing specific area sanding. I’m beginning to appreciate the benefit of really heavy tools like the milwaukees in cutting flat surfaces without too much rubbing and heating of the surface. I think this is a misunderstood benefit of the skill100 and the milwaukee, the heavier and more torque the better…

hey mds i got that ryobi

its a cracker mate

i used it to sand a board today

hooked up the vacuum for dust free sanding

its was at least as quick as a spin sander and left a nice finish

can use it one handed and it wont flick the board off the rack

only concern was that hole pattern is unusual

i cut a few holes in a holeless disk with a stanley knife

very good sander if it lasts while

Hey Paul

Sounds like a winner

How did it go with the factory pad???

I was thinking about making a couple of different pads to attach to the factory pad.

You know soft med and hard.

Dont want to go too soft though or the action of the sander might be lost in the foam pad.

You can buy a hole punch for the papers holes.

Maybe make-up a template and then just punch the hole in the right position.

How did yopu attach the vac hose to sander with it unusual shape??

Maybe a soft rubber hose with some clamps on it

Sounds like a good relatively dust free sand.

I like it

Will buy one now and see for myself.

Cheers
