what type of tool is best for sandin and buffing.what speed for polish and > can i get one at a hardwhare store i got one at brandsonsale.com it’s variable speed, from 1500-3000 rpm. best part…it was only $50. others i looked at were $200. im pretty sure it is refurbished…but it is made in the USA.

…They got what you need for $50.00.If it’s on sale it’s like $35.00.Herb

do they have a web-site?

do they have a web-site? …yes,check the resources page here @ Swaylocks.Herb

…yes, check the resources page here @ Swaylocks.Herb I know Herb swears by that Harbor Freight sander, but I’ve got to put out a dissenting opinion. I bought one and got only two boards out of it before it died. That’s what it did: it just died. No smoke, no sparks, no hum, nothing. It simply stopped and refused to restart. I changed the brushes, which did nothing, and then I dismantled it, but found everything seemingly in order. I even bypassed the on/off switch to send juice directly to the motor, but the sander was inert. Weird. I guess I got a lemon. But I’ve had other problems with Harbor Freight as well: a Paasche airbrush that arrived broken, a pancake-type air compressor that leaks oil, a couple of spoke shaves made in India that are worthless junk. I finally learned my lesson, and I won’t order from Harbor Freight anymore (no matter how many catalogs they send me…about one every ten days…poor wasted trees…)

…Sorry you had such a bad experience with H.F.Tools.My original sander from H.F. is over 2 years old ,still going strong, the only thing that’s gone on it is the cont.“on” button. It doesn’t engage anymore as of last board, but other than that it’s still tops, and has sanded more than I can remember, this also includes home repairs, skateboards(wood or wood n glass),homemade kids toys, tons of fins, including Superchargers, custom parts etc, etc. Harbor Freight has taken stuff back w/o problems ,even past the expired date stuff.I don’t mail order though, lots of store fronts in my area.Talk to them.I’ll bet they’ll make it right for you. …I also have a Makita 2 speeder thats older, and works great.I use it for bigger, heavier load stuff, like polishing, and larger boards. …The Sander I would recommend for more heavy use is the Hitachi varible speed sander/polisher.NICE!!!It’s a good pro grade sander with speeds from 1400-3400 ,button stop spindal(the makita uses a cr*ppy wrench),and you can get it at HomeDepot for around 168 bucks + the governor.Saved enough to by one for myself for Christmas,as long as the roof doesn’t,like,cave-in,I should get it tommorrow. …You can try the pawnshops in your area, they’re a good source of used tools, but take someone with you that knows powertools, if your not as professed with them.Herb

They’ve been great and only had to replace a cord on the older one.I know what you mean about the wrench, but that’s a minor thing. I was going to buy the Hitachi originally but they were out at the time so I went with the Makita. But I’ll probably get a Hitachi next time. Aloha, Kokua
