Hello
I just finished the hotcoat on my longboard abnd sanded it down up to 800 waterproof.
After this i also polished the surface with some car wax.
After thinking a long time i still think the surface is not smooth enough.
I’m thinking about doing a second hotcoat.
Before this i have to do a light sanding. What kind of grid do you recommend?
I was thinking about 80 or 100. Do i also need to clean the board after this sanding with aceton or something like that? I hope you want to help me.
Thanks

150 grit on a medium or hard pad is the way I would go.
Yes, 150 grit on a sanding pad or longblock is a good prep for second coat. Beware - consider wiping down with Coleman fuel or something and change the sandpaper several times. The wax can clog the paper and get smeared around creating fisheyes and rivulets in the next coat.
There’s nothing cleaner than a freshly sanded surface, I’d even sand with 100 or 80 grit. Just sand and dust with a clean cotton shirt. Now here’s the big thing…why are you trying to polish a hotcoat, when you should be putting a gloss coat down. 1) Sand the hotcoat, 2) Polish the gloss coat.
If you leave a scratchy board then the gloss resin has something to bite and hold too. When you lay gloss resin over hotcoat resin all you want to do is make sure the board is flat…pancake flat, get all the pukas and knobs of cloth out of the lamination. Get that done right, then when you put the gloss down all you do is pull the tape and buff out a few bugs.
Thanks all for your help.
Now i can finally finish my board
