Scotland surf

Hello,

Anyone from Scotland or know about its waves? I have the chance of being in Edinburgh in Late June/early July next year and was thinking of a side trip to the Isle of L. If the prevailing wind is SW I am wondering if the swell is blocked and if there are better options at that time of year.

If a PM is preferred I would ppreciate any local info I can get.

regards

Bob

Mpcutback,

Thanks. I have bought a couple of guide books and communicated with a guy on magicseaweed. I have been doing a bit of research into the weather and wasn’t sure how much swell got there in summer. There is a site with historical weather details and it looked like the wind changed direction N/S every couple of days and sometimes the wind would be much stronger in the morning and other times stronger in the evening. This suggests at least there would be some form of wind swell . If the predominant wind was from the SW I was unsure how much reached L due to the island’s orientation and that the south facing coast looks like it is dominated by cliffs, whereas isles to the immediate south would be more exposed to south swells.

2 words for you Thurso East, world class grade A wave, just very very cold.

I know so I can tell you, the Scotish are very friendly, you’ll have a great time for sure.

Woody,

I gather Thurso side is better in Winter. I’ll be in Alba in July and have been told the water will be around 14 degrees. A couple of weeks ago I received ferry tickets for a long trip off the coast which will be the surfing leg of our trip before a week in France.
