Ok im making a old school fish ( 5’7, 2.5" thick, 22" wide, 6.5" deep tail), I will start shaping it soon. But on the first board I made I glassed it myself, it wasnt to good looking ( couldnt sand it, dont have sander). So my problem is that I already bought materials to glass it with, and Im going to ride this alot more than my first board, and I want it to be glassed good with a resin tint. I dont have the resin pigment but I can buy it. I was wondering If there are any Glassers that know how to do resin swirls and will glass my board. I am willing to pay for what ever, I just want the board to look good. Oh and the fins will be glassed on, and I have the fins and rope already.
Thanks
Newshaper,
For the cost of paying a glasser you can buy a orbital sander and use it on many future boards. You could be riding your new board in a day or two instead of 4-6 weeks with the satisfaction that you built the entire board. There is lots of info here on resin swirls and everything else. I’ve had glassers glass my boards so they would “look good” and they still rode poorly. I’ve had poorly shaped boards glassed by pro’s thinking it would make the board “look good.” It didn’t(even though some of them surfed pretty good). My advice is glass it yourself and don’t worry about how it looks. Ride the — out of it then make another. Mike
Well Im pretty broke at the moment so would the sanders on Ebay work? like would they do the job good?
Hi newshaper,
I’m not familiar with anything on E Bay. I like to look at and hold a tool(anything) in my hands before I buy. But, your fish with a resin swirl will probably cost you about 150 to 200 bucks if done by a glasser. That will buy a pretty good tool, I think. You could sand the whole thing by hand for a few dollars worth of paper. To glass it yourself will probably cost you half that amount. You might even be able to pick up a used tool or discounted tool from one of the mega stores(home depot) and glassing materials for close to this cost(200 bucks). Or, borrow the sander. Surfin is so sweet, but it is even sweeter on a board you made with your own hands. The whole board. mike
it´s not about how your board looks it´s about how it surfs. Learn to do your glass job as good as possible. In the long run it will pay. You should definitely do it yourself

Call up Global Glassing in Oceanside. My brother works there and they may be able to glass it for you or point you to a glass house that will do what you want done. I’m not sure how their prices run but they do good work.
just hand sand it if you’re that broke…
newshaper I am new to this also. My glassing is ok,I have done 2 boards with epoxy and had some problems with getting thick enough coats to sand smooth.I don’t care that much about the top but I do make sure the bottom is correct. What the h— if it doesn’t look like ones from the store they seem to ride increasingly better.
The last board I made was a old style fish with a blue tinted resin, seems the tint wasn’t mixed good enough or something and I ended up with a swirling tye dye looking thing. I thought it very good looking. And what a ride.
If you can at all glass, buy the sander. Roostersurf
