I found a place to shape, I can rent from the Moura surfshop . . . but I saw an ad that he’s selling it . . . well I guess it’ll be around for a few months.
I can’t glass / shape where I live. Save the long story, I got caught by a 24/7 neighbor that watches with the all seeing eye of sarumon. With blank pieces and foam blowin’ around. I cleaned up most of it . . . anycase.
My 'rents house . . . well I’m welcome but they just set up an uber garden and its off limits.
glass shops? I asked around . . . most glass shops are on tight schedules and won’t allow a newb in there.
I did a quick calculation . . . ok say the shop makes $200 of each board . . . based on the amount of boards . . . it would be much more profitable to have an expert glasser sand and glass boards plus they have waiting lists. Fair enough. . .
Anyone know any places to glass? I want to glass my first few boards just to learn it.
Between 8:00am and 7:00pm you can make “construction” noise. Just follow the fine example of yard men every where.
I work nights and those leaf blowers have been waking me up for years !
And the tree trimmers. Go out drinking on a week night. You will find out that all your neighbors need to have their trees trimmed. Noise problem solved. No noise after 6:00pm.
We are back yard shapers not giant mess makers. Use a shop vac connected to your planner. Yes, it dampens the creative flow but…
I work in my garage. I hate a mess. The neighbors hate a mess too. Stop every 10 min and vac up the mess. Remember it’s a hobbie. Oh yes the power sander. Mess maker and noise maker. Don’t sand boards when the guy across the street is having his mother in law over for dinner. Buy that guy a beer.
And the smell…Epoxy does not smell. I have a few issues with epoxy but I will continue to use it because it does not smell.
with poly…set your self up to use UV cure catalyst. Only smells when you are laying up the board. Take that baby out into the sunlight and the smell goes with it. Slight lingering smell but nothing to complain about. I hot coat late at night ,way after bed time !
Be safe too. Make sure you cover the floor before using resin. Is there a fire hazard in your work area? Are you well ventalated. Fire extingusher near by???
After reading that . . . since there is a place to shape . . . most of the foam dust issue is gone. I could use epoxy to glass . . . and take an idea Mark gave me awhile back with using tons of tarps . . . Besides my 'rents are gone most of the time. . . could time it when they have the garden all ripped out ready for seasonal planting . . .
Cool . . . I’ll get creative on the noggin and see what I can come up with.
