second happiest day in my life

one for new daddy’s…

my three and a half year old daughter swam for the first time this week…what a great feeling

she likes playing in the waves with me too…

…its only a matter of time

Stoked! What a little cutie. I have two girls(10 and 14). Older one didn’t learn to swim until she was about 7 because she wouldn’t put her face in the water. Until, she watched her little sister at about 3 1/2 swimming. Then she was all over it.

My youngest expressed an interest in surfing. The kids around here don’t go in the ocean much because its so cold. I told her I would build her a board if she took the local Jr. Lifeguard program. She had to pass the entrance test. So, I took her to the pool to train and improve her swimming. Passed the test, but still a weak swimmer. The kids have to at least try to make the daily buoy swim or their out of the program. I found out from one of the lifeguards she was so afraid she would cry before the swim. But, she never said no and made it and didn’t give up and overcame her fear. Very proud father, too, Meecrafty. Mike

Mee, stoked for her !! (and you)

Must be a nice feeling to see her stoke , and to think / hope that one day she may surf too.

I was lucky enough to get photos of my nephew [7 at the time] stand up for the first time on my mate Ross’s board …yes , Wildy , in Wonthaggi ! My nephew, now 24, charges big G-land , among other places …surfs rings around his old uncle !

Rooster , that’s a classic story about your daughter at the lifesaver’s learn to swim class …

Congrats Mee, and for the new dads that have posted on Sways lately just a heads up that there are some very simple tricks to teach a child to swim starting soon after they are born.

I don’t have any knowledge of these particular method but here’s a link just for the photos.

That is so cool!

My little baby girl loves playing in the bathtub and found the beach equally fun, she didn’t mind the cold water at all(we did though). I keep telling my wife when she learns to swim, she’s going surfing with daddy. Yeah, it’s only a matter of time…

yeah , what IS that with kids not feeling the cold ??

On the weekend just gone , while I’m rugged up in "Hicksy’'s garage doing fibreglass stuff , shivering… outside in the 14 degree [58F]borderline hail and wind storm , Grant’s three daughters are having a great old [young] time ! …not cold at ALL …huh ?! I feel such a woose at times like that !

im stoked there’s other new daddy’s out there with similar experiences…i was so stoked that day i just had to post it…funny thing is that Jas too didnt like putting her face/eyes in the water…she’s very much the girlygirl y’know…thats good…but i put her in the pool with me that day and she was just being braver than normal…kickin her cute little feet…then she starts jumping off the edge like some extreme pool kid…one thing lead to another and sudddenly she’s pushing off the edge and fully submerged, floating/swimming towards me with her feet…I WAS SHOCKED! i was chocking back tears of joy…truly an unforgettable experience!

thanks for sharing your stories guys!

regards

Here is my 5 year old out with me Sunday at Doheney

and proud Dad.

He had fun till we got caught in the impact zone. Over head for him.

I don’t like the impact zone when waves get over my head either.

He did want to go back out when it was smaller.

Howzit 4est,That’s so great,I rode my first wave at Doheny when I was 5.Aloha,Kokua

hey 4est…thats a sweet shot of you two…you guys look so stoked there…looking forward to similar surf experiences with my daughter who’s back up on the original post (typical dad always showing off pics of the little babe)

hey ben, c’mon now…you should of seem me at her birth…i cried like a girl…absolutely couldnt believe what just happened…it was the most amazing feeling ever…we didnt know the gender until she was born (by choice) and we both wanted a girl so when she came out and i saw the “slot”…oh boy…i mean oh girl…the most vivid vision i have is of her lips…she was a sticky mess but her lips were so clean and perfect…man like it was yesterday…you should witness her personality today at 3.5 y/o…so outgoing, sweet and chatty…im the luckiest dude on earth…i would be a wreck w/o her in my life

D’arci kate was born on the 3rd of August 2005 at 1:49pm est second happiest day of mine.

I’ts cool ,I am over the initial hangover , Mum , Bub and Son doing fine.

Really stoked for all you Dads out there, we had 3 under the age of 13 months at one stage, it’s just an amazing thing watching your own growing up before your eyes…my twins turned 8 the other day, they were born on the 8/8 so this will be a lucky year for them…

This from last summer, I still get a lump in my throat looking at these…

WHile babyswimming sure has it’s pros, there are a few cons as well. I know this little boy who, when he was about two years old, whenever there was water nearby he would get to the waters edge and start counting. You’d better drop everything and grab him because when he got to three he would jump! No respect for the water at all…

Håvard

hi Dave !

I found this at "shaperoom.net’ … I reckon it’s pretty cool, eh ?! … [Laird , earlier?]
