Second to the Skil and Hitachi?

What planers are second to these? Surely there must be guys out there using other planers.

Anyone advise on how the inexpensive Black and Decker works? Just scouting around at Home Depot, I saw this thing next to the Bosch. It’s a little lighter, but only costs like $60. I’d figure it would work well if you’re just mowing a few blanks here and there. Anyone tried this one?

Never tried it. Picked it up though. Feels week and awkward. I think I would but a cheap Chinese replica of the hitachi from freight tools or on e-bay----though I here those are good for only a while. pay waht you get for I guess.

The only thing is that the adjustment know is not a quick depth adjustment set up like the skil 100. I still can’t get over the fact that uys want over $1000 for skils–as if the planer is the total key to shaping?

It has the round adjustment knob on top and 2 blades. I have done 2 boards with it and I think it does just fine. Maybe if I get to a level where I think it is hampering me I will upgrade to a better one, but for a beginner, I think it works fine. Good luck.
