Seeking info on design package...

I’m trying to track down a computer based board design package that was developed in Brazil. It’s a compeititor to DAT98 and it’s supposed to be a pretty nice package. It is sold out of Hawaii but that’s all I’ve been able to learn. Has anybody information about this package? Is there a free demo version somewhere?

I did a search on line for it, and all I could find is a reference to it by the Xanadu guy from Brazil during a transworld surf interview. I then searched under Xanadu surfboards brazil and did not see it on their site. Are you sure it is available yet? Anyway, here is the link to the article. It might give you some direction on where to check next. http://www.twsurf.com/article/bizcolumns.cfm?alias_id=5174

Hi, Please take a look at my new Surboards Interactive site. It’s been upgraded signifigantly to allow complete design control. And it will allow you to save as many of your designs online as you like. www.surfboardsinteractive.com http://www.surfboardsinteractive.com

I checked out the site and you are a flash maniac! It’s not clear to me how I get the design in my hands so that I can print templates or get it machined. Apparently, the package out of Brazil lets you do that but I’ve heard that the output is specific to only one kind of shaping machine. I’m interested in this sort of thing as currently, I can transfer dat98 models to a preshaping service in santa cruz and that’s where I’m going with my computer shaping adventures - I’m just not very handy with a planar and enjoy shaping on the computer more - I love the way I can put foam back on the blank when I screw up! Dat98 is a pretty nice tool but the licensing is stupid and forces you to do odd things to keep it going for more than 30 days unless you have the dough to pay oppressive fees. It’s too bad they don’t drop the price to like $50 bucks for the low end version so that it’s accesible to more people… It’s 50 more bucks than they are getting now and dat98 is a very good deal at that price point. I’m rambling but I get pretty excited about this computer stuff… So the bottom line is: if there is a way to get the raw board data from your site so that it can be converted for consumption by shaping service cad systems, then your site may be part of a solution for me. Have you thought about developing a standalone client app based on your geometry representation? Thanks for the link and way to go taking flash to surf dimension!

Well the virtual calipers will let you take a measurment at any point on the board. We can make numerical x/y coordinates (measured from the centerline and tail) visible too…we thought that might be a little too much to put out there right away. And of course there is the grid background. You can save your designs to a folder (as many as you want)…you can register other usernames specifically for shapers or others who you want to show a few designs to and let them check out those folders. The FILE tab has a “change user/folder” button that lets you save one design to other folders. This keeps your master folder safe from getting edited. We would like to get some more feedback from Shapers…as to what numbers they enter into their machines… that we can also capture from our “Flex Shapes” and provide an online interface with that numerical info. We’ve offered shapers to post their boards for free on our site, and we’ve asked manufacturers and surf related bussiness to support this project with some sponsorship. But so far only a few manufacturers have taken an interest. Tony Channin gave me some real good perspective and much more time then he really had to give at Surf Expo. And the Gordon and Smith guys totally got it. I haven’t contacted either of them yet to let them know what a killer upgrade we have just released. Swaylocks supported us first so we released it first here. We do get well over a thousand hits everyday from all over the world…so evidently someone is digging this. But as for DAT and the rest…Surfboards Interactive will remain free to use. We have Sales/Production consoles that work for tracking orders that are not included in the puplic site. And several other productivity features. When it becomes a profit maker for the professional board manufacturer…that’s when S.I. will turn a profit for itself. So I look forward to any shaper that would like to get involved. Our next “mission” is to tune the program to work off of real world blanks dimensions. Anyone with a schedule of those that would like to email me wll be helping out a lot. My biggest concern right now is getting out of my 5 mil and back into the 3/2!>>> I checked out the site and you are a flash maniac!
