Well my boards are coming along very good, but ive got some questions. Can i squegge a lam down and let it cure, then proceed with my clothe? What is the deal with putting resin uncured on a board and then putting a catalyzed batch on top of it? What board is too big for a leash loop(i really like them)? I could go on for hours and i will at some point in time. Thanks for the thoughts on this stuff. Im posting a pic of my most recent board
Just another step you are doing, so why?
I used to experiment with extra lightness by squeegeeing a tight coat of lam on the blank to seal, let cure, then lam normal, but it’s not much diff.
Board size is not the consideration for leash cups, it’s wave size. Lots of my older guns had two leash cups, joined and used in conjunction (both used by interconnect line).
But a 30 lbs. 10’ log would need more than one single leash cup, if tossed in overhead surf.
NO! Don’t do it! The uncured resin beneath the lam will not completely cross-link and therefore act as a “release layer”. That is after some time in the sun, your lam will eventually detach from the blank. I’ve seen it happen…
Are you referrring to basting? If so plenty in archives on that.
I had a number of questions regarding the leash loop as well. Just put one on a 10’6 monster. People say that the leash loop is actually stronger than a cup, or a hole drilled through the finbox.
And if properly installed a leash cup (which is not a leash loop) should be plenty stronger for a 10 footer in overhead surf. In fact I have wiped out countless times and never had any problem with a leash cupo on a 10’.

I don’t think you can make a board that is too big for a leash loop. I have one on my 11’6" board. I don’t take it out in surf that is over say chest high though. I also have one on my 11’ board and I have had it out is some good size surf well overhead. I’m with you I like the look of the loop.
L.Loop has more surface area, stronger.
L.Cups have depth for it’s surface area, but it’s not bonding to anything strong…foam…so weaker.
Lots of big wave guns have two leash cups…easy to install…easier than one good LLoop.
