hey john- ive been working with rr epoxy and im looking to find a way to get a better hotcoat. ive done approx 2hrs after the lam like you recommended in a previous post, but ive avoided the rails because i was afraid to lay tape on a tacky lam. how do you go about doing this? (keep in mind, my hotcoats suck not because of the resin- its all me, but im looking to improve) also- do you use qcell/ microballon filler with your hotcoat to fill the weave? thanks for your help johnO
I use blue masking tape. The lamination should be semi-hard. I’m no expert - just heard that in general, better bonding occurs when additional coats are added before first coat is fully cured - 2 hours is an estimated time under ideal conditions. RR Epoxy doesn’t get amine blush which is what requires sanding between coats. On heavy fabrics, use 2 fill coats to cover weave. If you search archives, Greg Loehr has practically posted a book on using his resin.
thanks john- im guessing that the fill coat is the cab/microballon layer- ill give it a go
we’ll have to put this subject title in the notebook for future reference.
Sorry, I use plain epoxy resin - no filler.
