does any one know anything about chambering wood boards but only in say the nose of a longboard so that you arn’t trying to swing as much weight. also if one were to chamber the nose of a board would it affect the noseriding ability
Shoot an email to George Robinson (http://www.grdesigns.com/). I seen him chamber full balsa boards from scratch (it amazingly alot of work). He is the man to talk too.
Aloha Rider,
Jim the Genius here on Sway is a go-to guy on this subject. My humble thought, having done only several chambered balsas, is that you won’t gain much by chambering only the nose. I asume you are talking about a board at least 9’ since you mentioned noseriding. For one you’ll likely throw off the balance of the board, especially if you’re doing a classic style with rounded belly and expect pivot turns, etc. The nose area represents about a fourth of the length of the board, but that fourth contains the least amount of volume (thickness) on your board, therefore the amount of weight you can expect to take out by chambering only the nose is quite insignificant. I’d say take your time and chamber the whole thing. Enjoy the ride!

I just got my copy of Master ShaperII from Damascus Productions. It features Jim Phillips shaping a short foam board in the first half and the rest is on gluing up and shaping balsa boards. There is a great detailed section on chambering.A really good film around 11/2 hours long packed with info on fin placement making templates…Typical of Damascus there is no B.S…just pure information. The film quality is vastly improved and the narration live by Jim.All you need to make a balsa board from milling raw stock and gluing the blank to use of hand tools to finish the board. i have no intention of shaping one any time soon just wanted to knowif anyone had some feedback on the idea.
