I just finished shaping myself a 7’0" x 10.75"N x 18.5" x 13.5"T x 2.5" semi gun but can’t decide on where to place the quad set-up? The board will be used for DOH++ surf so I really don’t want to screw up the placement. I definitely want to go with a quad and can’t find anything in the resources so any help would be much appreciated.
You might try this:
I’ve used the Mckee formula in the past on smaller boards but was a bit hesitant on the semi gun. Does anybody have actual experience with this setup in bigger surf or any idea what Stretch uses on his semi guns?
…with that tail area, there s no problem
go with normal placement
the problem to find a proper place is with thinned tail outlines
also Mckee positions are very different to the USA shapers
that most have a somewhat old placements
with back fins too much spread out and too closer to the front fins, in my opinion
at least in normal size range

hes being doing gun quads and riding them for ages
Perhaps try the following , I have used it and I know it works:
front fins - 11 1/2 up from tail, 1 1/4 off rail with 3 degrees of toe and 5 degrees of cant.
Rear fins - 5 1/2 from tail, 1 3/16 off rail, 2 degrees of toe and 3 degrees of cant.
Quads work very well on guns as they have almost unlimited holding power and tremendous speed due to the decreased drag, good choice!
