Hi folks - what's the difference in a semi-pig and a pig longboard?
Narrower hips. Not so pronounced.
God Bless Dale Velzy.
Mine is a 16 1/4 tail, 23.5 wide point 6 inches rear of middle and 16.6 nose…is that a semi or pig?
I think you are making things too compicated. the board sounds pretty 'pig'ish to me
Okay...so now we have a pig, semi-pig and now pig-ish LOL!
Only joking...they are only labels afterall...but was kind of interested in why folk class them as semi-pigs rather than just pigs. I'll just stick with a modern pig-ish longboard...how's that.

............say what you want...........
Hips are nice...I like hips...put them in the right place...it's a good thing......
...out for a walk with Mrs. Stingray...at the lake....We both see all the great hips out there.....We joke..we laff......we stroll..
A pig is a pig.....Getting it sexy is a big goal.....
I guess semi pig is sort of like mini log......sort of like nice hips....when you see a nice curve...you will know it's a nice curve...
and Mrs Stingray does not surf ......but she can tell you a nice curve on a board or a body.......
"when you see a nice curve...you will know it's a nice curve".
That is the bottom line. It's what makes the surfing world go 'round.
I like hips and curves too...and on my surfboards also.
plenty of them around, no beer = full pig, 4 or 5 stubbies = semi pig, 8 or 9 beers STUNNER…hahaha…
You guys need to go on the bromide lol!
Good hips…something to grab hold of I guess???
pronounced hips really loosen up the ride.

This is either a serious answer, or a very clever humourous post. Not sure which.
I'll tell you what man; there are some real pigs out there. Done the bar scene lately? Didn't think so.
Stingray That is one sweet pig, should take a blue ribbon at the county fair.
I Have been thinking of something like that with a soft wing to step the tail in a little. Then a bonzer fin set. gotta call Steve Forestall and see what that would set me back.
My personal 8’6" Jersey Pig
Nice ride Tom. Howzit as a quad? Can you turn it from the middle?
Foil looks good.
Tblank,
Yes you can turn it from the middle very easy, I made the same board for Corky Carroll down in Mexico and when I make my yearly pilgrimage down to surf with him I used it all week and just loved it. Turns are very tight, I can pump the sh#t out of it and get really close to the nose for some old school nose riding. This one has more over all rocker for the steeper waves here in Jersey, this will be my go to board for a while. It’s eps foam, epoxy lam and hot coat and uv clear gloss coat. Thanks for the compliment Tblank
Tom
Looking good Tom
The PIG design was the standard design of the day, in the mid 50's to the early/mid 60's period. In 1958 I was given the 1957/58 Velzy Pig template, by Wayne Land. (still have it) One of the top shapers of that period. It's a surprisingly versitile template. I made lots of balsa Pigs, before shaping foam at Velzy in 1960. The best ''spinout special'' ever created was the VELZY BUMP version of the Pig design. I had one in 1958, it was an 8' 10'' x 20'' Sq tail, bought it new from Dale at the San Clemente shop for $75 dollars. On a hard bottom turn the tail would leap out of the water! Never a good thing!!! I made and rode a 7' 11'' x 21'' rounded pin Pig in 1959. The general Pig design will perform over a large range of board sizes. The local kids at La Jolla Shores were riding Velzy Pigs down to 8 feet long, in 1959 and 1960.
