SENIOR PROJECT

so today i was not able to get much done other then sanding because the extra laminating resin which i ordered for 2day shipping from foamez.com last wednesday still isn’t here.So i made sure everything was as flush as possible and ready for when i get it. Also today i went and got the materials i will eventually need to do pinlines.

If you look at the two pictures of the bottom of the board you can see the patches that i had put in and sanded flush. Also a few more spots have bubbled up that aren’t quite as big as the ones i previously fixed. You can see one of these little bubbles on the first picture on the inside of the swallow tail. My plan was just to cut some slits in them and let them fill in when i glass over them.

In the pictures of the top you can see what i was talking about with the lap line being quite messy, i may get creative with the pinline to cover that up.

man you wernt kidding about the cut lap ,, guess youll have to do one of those squigglie pinlines

how did you get that big blister under the nose?

did you wait too long to cut the laps?  just make really fat pinlines...i guess you would have to come up with another name besides "pin"lines though...as long as its smoothed out it should look fine...i think it would look good if you did 3 thin ones too right next to each other...like black blue black...pinline after the hotcoat

First… it will ride waves.

As for the cosmetics… You can always mix up more tinted resin and hit the bald spots along the cut lap and make them at least some shade of blue to blend in. Or you can do double or even triple pinlines to cover the cosmetics.

You could also think about painting the bottom of the board… or covering any areas you don’t want to see in stencils.

jresse - good on yer for going for it!  Looking good - I agree that the flaws can be painted or covered (I know this from experience!), and it will look good when you're done.  Second board, eh? - sounds like the beginning of a healthy addiction to building boards - welcome to our world!  Love to see kids like you doing creative handcrafted stuff - keep it up!

Today i lamed the top of the board and it went way better then the bottom. There where no bubbles and the laps are probably 20 times straighter as you can see in the picture. I don’t really know what i did differently but i guess im getting a little better.  Also, somehow after i glassed the top the bubbles on the bottom almost completely disapeared. I guess the top pulled the bottom tighter.

The big blister on the nose was a patch that didnt get completely saturated at first so i cut it out and re-glassed it.

nj surf i agree that all i really care about is that it is rides well, but it would be nice if i can get it to look ok aswell.[img_assist|nid=1051169|title=secpnd lap|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=640|height=480]

today i did the hotcoat and it came out pretty good, but i will still have a lot of sanding to do tomorrow.

I dont have the tools or the ability to put in my fins. If anybody in the philadelphia/south jersey area is capable of installing proboxes or know somewhere where i can get them installed, it would be cool if you could let send me a pm or something.

I just did a real lot of sanding today and i will still have alot more to do tomorrow. this really takes a long time with no power sander and it real tiring to.

FINALLY DONE

over the past week ive been doing mostly community service but i had a little time to put the finishing touches on my board. Yesterday i finished sanding and put down a pinline(if you can call it that) and glossed over it with some krylon clear coat. I think it looks great and i am really exited to ride it. I dont have my fins in yet, but ill get them installed soon.
