Shaped My First Board + odd question about a shaper Mino Suzuki

Finally finished shaping my first board and imediately started on a second. I have been working on a couple of mini longboard style surfboards for my kids. They are 6'8 with wide noses and the one I finished today has a wide tail. I changed the template for the second one but I think both should work out fine. The shapes are funky for kids but my nine year old loves my 9'4 long board so I just tried to scale it down for him. hopefully I can finish the second have them all glassed to surf in two weeks.

The picture of the board on the rack is when it was almost done the other is after shaping was complete..

I spent a lot of time digging through the archives here and found tons of great info.

I will post more pics of the finished product.

Also.... Has any one heard of Mino Suzuki? I saw some shapes of his that looked decent and the tints were really nice too. I have heard he is out of Newport. Any input about him or his boards?

Mino is a good shaper, who has been at for about twenty years now.  He used to workout of the Waterman’s Guild, and his early shaping influence and mentor was Bob Hurley.

Howzit grat, Does the second one look like he rails are just a little to parallel for a 6'8" board or is it just my imagination.. Aloha,Kokua

Its not a 6'8" board - its a ten footer...menehune scale!

All in all the board looks good for his first attempt.  Looks like a nice shaping room too, that I am assuming someone let him borrow.  Yeah the rails are parallel and the outline looks funky, but right on, and keep it going, and I bet his kids are totally stoked.  I hope he starts on a few for them now.  It is all about having fun, and sharing the stoke.  i can’t for the life of me figure out why there are so many grumpy people around here.  I know I sound like a know it all, but I have had plenty of great teachers, and I am stoked to share the information, without throwing my name every time I post up.  Besides its a lot easier to say what I am thinking.

Yep the rails are very parallel and the outline is funky.. The goal was a scaled down longboard. I was going for a mini magic type of thing. I am hoping it turns ok for the the kids. But I suspect it will just hang in the pocket, I added a single concave and vee off the tail. I cant wait to get a few waves on it.

My buddy is letting me use is shaping room and offering up tons of help. It's been a lot of fun and a lot of work.

I'll be the first around here to admitt that you know WAY more than me and I can appreciate it.  I'm glad you hang around.  I learn something new every time you post.   And it's pretty obvious that you didn't "read it in a magazine"  as
Sir Elton would say.

Mcding, thanks, but were all in this together, and I totally dig on what you bring to the table.  I have this stupid degree in American History, and I like to write, I love surfing, and making boards.  And I still have a lot to learn, and to share.  I think were all moving this thing forward together.  Nothing like the stoke of making your first board.
