shapeing barefoot

you call it fluff, i like to think of it as a bit of perfomance art thrown into the mix. no disrespect intended…peace

Shaping is:

  1. “The Eye”

  2. “The Walk”

  3. “The Cut”

Anything else is fluff.Herb

I perfer to get a running head start. The faster you move over the blank, the smoother the cut. I once even went so far as to make a little cart that I sat in and my friend pushed me back and forth, now thats a smooth cut. Now I just get so high that I float over the blank…no need to walk, just float. You guys are freaks.

None taken,it’s all just terms, ideas anyway…Have a good one !Herb

Haven’t worn shoes for years, even when its frosty. My only shoes are surfing booties, people are frequently trying to give me shoes because they think I need them.

Not sure if my barefoot rail scraping activities are shaping or not. . . might have to ask Kendall about that

That’s funny…I don’t shape barefoot, but I always cross-step while shaping. I think it makes the planer move more smoothly  I really do.

My God !

Cross stepping in shoes . . . the mind boggles, please confirm via video footage.

Where in Maryland are you? I live there too!

Danke und Tschuss.

Cross-stepping in shoes is just the way I learned at 9 yrs of age. In Sil-Lum Kung-Fu you train/execute you moves in shoes…not barefooted like most martial arts are done.

…Cross-stepping is a basic move in Sil-lum and economizes energy and strength, while allowing the subject to move quicker/faster over a broader/longer line.It is the basis for ,“The Dragon”.Think and feel how a dragon walks…cross-steps.Herb

well up here we wear , a jackie howe, king gee’s and volleys .

That is shaping attire in QLD.AUS

I cross step in shoes every time I ride my long skateboard. Especially when I strap it to the treadmill, set the incline to 12*, the speed to 8 mph, and get a garage session in. Yeah, the wheels are spinning backwards, but keeping it centered on the belt while stepping & switchfooting is great practice & a lot more like surfing than a wobble board is…

Herb - forward is cloudy hands, getting back is repulse monkey

Benny, sweet idea for skating on a treadmill. I wish I had a way to try that one out!

I don’t shape barefoot, but I do cross step when I walk along the board. It’s good practice.

You’re killing me with your Avatar. Every time I see it I bust out laughing. Thanks, I needed that. Doug

From what I studied(no dis to you),The ape or monkey

(even though it was early in the changes) is an add on animal from the original group that was derived from the wing-chung method. Also from the original group some were deleted like the Ram.My instruction was very old world and long before the TV series.Herb

I hear you

My experience is Yang-syle long form Tai Chi Chuan…the repulse monkey is not a form of moving like a monkey, but one of keeping a monkey from getting too close to you.

Most of the 108 forms are cats, snakes, and birds.

Benny,

Tai-Chi is great ! I wish I would have spent more time into it rather that the combat arts, but being a youth of the modern world,I needed an edge…Kung-Fu gave me that edge.

I have done some basic Tai-chi,and love it …I might go back to the park and take it back up again…Thanks.Herb

Herb, some Tai Chi forms are quite combative. I’ve also done some work in Chen style which is all offense, very little defense. Moving slowly trains muscle memory into precision, so if you want to speed it up you never get sloppy. Same result as mastering a ‘real time’ art, but a different approach along the way.

Yang style also has a 88-move 2 person form which is very close-quarters combat. You must maintain touch with your opponent the entire time - lose touch, lose leverage. I think you’d like it
