As loud as possible, with fireing range head-sets to cut the planer whine! Ashwin Batish–Sitar Power II…This is cosmic stuff! This guy has fused an Indian/Eastern foundation with Surf, Jazz, and Dancy/Electronic influences. He’s got a song called “Surfin’ with the Sitar Man” that’s pretty cool. And there’s certainly no lack of energy on this album. The guy’s got firey fingers. Found him on Phil Dirt’s surf music site. I also listen to everything from the Ventures…a lot…to a little Enya. Sometimes a little Stevie Wonder–Talking Book. Sometimes I forget to turn on my player, and end up listening to the music of my mind. And yes, I crank it.
i usually crank up “who let the dogs out”, or i listen to madonna, or michael jackson. wait, wait… no i dont.
Depends on what I’m shaping. Short hy per boards its Van Halen (early stuff), Alice in Chains, Etc. Longboards and funboards it’s Jimmy Buffett. Guns it’s Keith Jarret, some stuff from Beach Boys Surf’s Up album, Larry Carlton, any good Classical. NO F—IN RAP FOR ANYTHING!!! When they named it Rap they forgot to put the C in front of it!! Actually, I have heard a couple of catchy Rap tunes but I’d never admit it! I cannot shape without music. aloha! tom

REMY SHAND is my new fav. Stevie Ray Vaughn, Black Crows, Stevie Wonder, and Pantera.
I can’t shape to stuff like rob zombie anymore…last time I did that I whittled away until I had a board the size of a dinner plate! (and I went out to commit crimes). These days…all instrumental…sedate forms of classical music…classical guitars (segovia, flamenco type {gypsy kings}, angelo badalamenti{did a lot of the music for “twin peaks”})…I try to make the music and mood more ambient. If I get too into the music, I get WAY too amped up …(hide your children…lawnmower man is coming)!
DEANO BY GENEO HEY SKIP, I ALSO DO A LOT OF MILLIN’ TO DYLAN.
HEY SKIP, I ALSO DO A LOT OF MILLIN’ TO DYLAN. Nice! Hey, what’s your Deano fav ? I know the Dylan tune’s gotta be “Serve somebody”.
Anything from Ry Cooder fits the bill nicely. Also solo work by the greatest dobro player alive, Jerry Douglas, facilitates the flow well, too. Martin Simpsom (another slide master) makes for a Big Easy via UK change of pace. Notice a pattern? Bottleneck slidework is great to work by! Jim Dunlop
