Shaping 101 & Glassing 101

I was wondering if any of you swaylockers out there that live in the SF Bay Area and own shaping 101 and/or glassing 101 would be willing to let me borrow/rent the videos for a day. Or do you know of any where I can rent them from? I am on a college student budget and just starting out on my first board. Any money I can save can be put towards the cost of materials/tools for my board. I did find a site online where I can buy the vidoes for $20 each but I would rather save the money. Also, how helpful where these videos to you? Could I get by without out them or by just reading the archives?

Thanks

Ric

it depends on how much knowledge that you all ready poses. you can definetly do it without the video, shaping 101 wasnt around 30 years ago and people have been shaping boards since then without a problem.

if you read in here a lot you shouldnt have to much of a problem

i just finished my first board and found the video’s invaluable. i would never have known about how to get rail bands right,

exactly how to cut my glass, techniques with sandpaper ect. without them. If you want to save dollars and have tons of time,

(i remember wasting plenty of that in college :D) forgo all power tools. You won’t get as even of a board out of it. i had a hard time establishing the neccessary rhythm because there was alot of work to do to simply shave the blank down. i DID, however, end up with a FUN, completely acceptable board out of my first shape. Plus i feel more attached to it because i sweated over it a bit.

I have a set of these on VHS that I would be happy to loan to you, but they haven’t been returned from the last guy who borrowed them… maybe he’ll see this post and remember…then you can use them.

I would just recommend getting the Glassing 101. When you shape I would recommend using only hand tools and any abrasives you can find to shape the deck of your board…Good Luck…
