I am going to be making a speed dialer type board and I am curious how I should go about shaping the bumps in the tail rail.
Should I shape the bumps into my wood template, and draw them on to the board and cut them into my blank when I cut out the template?
Or should I just cut out the template wide of where the bumps are place and shape them in when I foil down the rails?
Thanks for the help!
I just shaped one where I put the bumps in later. I’ve seen others put them in when they cut they outline, but you must be extremely careful at that stage. Mine came out well, but they required careful planning, careful sanding, and overall extreme care.

I’d mark out the board wide to start using an unbumped template…
Mark where you want the bumps to start and slide the template in towards the stringer the amount you need to…
Mark out on the template the start and end points are and transpose them to the other side, repeat…
This will keep you template clean and maintain the curve you used on the original template…

Hey Nat
Not really that hard once I asked for advice here, amazing how far you can distort glass around sharp edges…
I just had to be really really careful sanding them…
