shaping is...

happy to see happy customers

walking into my laboratory to see what Frankensteinian pieces of foam and wood wait my madness to creat life, ha-ahaaaaaaaaa

Shaping is also passion.

Glassing is a huge headache tho

Hey Bryan,

I LOL when I read your reply. Yes glassing can be a pain. I remember all the trouble you had with your first board. I tried my best to get you in the ball park though.

Have you found a job yet??? Surfed some waves there???

Shaping is a wonderful outlet for art, engineering and craftsmanship all rolled into one! I find myself just staring at some of the flowing curves on a new outline and letting logic move me to the next before I even get finished with that one! Gotta love it

Im gonna start training in a glass factory and hopefully that goes well. It seems kinda good, but at the same time seems weird, I dunno.

On the side I’m gonna do the SEM Guard service thing or whatever just so I have a little bit of cash.

Still havent surfed yet. =\ Anyone wanna go show me some spots?

Aloha

Bryan

The first place I surfed as a visiting teenager long ago was the base of the cliff just south of the San Clemente pier. We decided to follow some guys with boards on their car and see where they were going. Wound down through a neighborhood and had to walk down some stairs to the water. Steep high cliff there. Very fun little wave that DUMPS hard. San Onofre beach by Trestles is a nice spot to start also. Called “Old Man’s” its a very nice long board wave. We ripped it on our short boards with no one out one day. Once the “old Guys” showed up they took every wave from the outside through. Now I’m an “Old Guy”! HA HA! Had to tell the groms the other day to throw us old guys a few bones on our short boards. Wish I could have that kind of wave count! Bryan…Get your azz in the water!!!

So Bryan, did you get the job I recommended? I thought you shaped AND glassed for the fun of it, and this would be a place and time to learn both from a professional’s point of view.

Yeah, nighttime guard is a good no brainer…cuts into your surf time tho.

Good luck, the surf is everywhere, there’s a head high S running, have fun, live the California life!

Yeah I got the job. Interviewed a few days ago and I go into the factory to start training on tuesday. I’m hoping I dont lose my desire for shaping in the midst of the work - I dont think it’ll happen, but yeah.

In any case Lee, Thanks a ton. I would have never thought to look if you didnt point that out to me. Hopefully I’ll learn a ton and catch on quick so I can rely on making surfboards to be enough income to pay the bills and leave me time to surf.

I dont have anything to do tomorrow - so I should probably be surfing - but I gotta get myself secure. Work before play you know? All that surfing wont be doing me any good if I’m living in my truck.

Wow, with your attitude, you’ll be one fine surf shop production employee, and a generally great nite time security cop.

I’m the opposite…everything that gets in the way of good surf is tossed out the window, no phone calls, no post sesh sorrys.

I’m surprised I got to work in the industry for so long, flake that I am.

I found working in the shop, both production and retail, actually increase my stoke to shape boards and surf more. More info, more fun. More discounts, even more fun!

Cool, I’m sure you won’t blow it, have a great time, and work till you are saturated, and feel free to move on.

More discounts, even more fun!”

Let’s only hope. Im planning on making a big wave trip and want to get a 9-10 footish gun sometime in the near future.

Big wave trips are the best!

I’ve owned more than 4 9’6" guns, and one 10’4" Brewer gun (never used it) also.

Multiple trips to the North Shore, I’ve brought 3 board quivers, starting at 7’6"x18’s.

Central Mex is best this time of the year, and semi close. Brought my trusty 8’6" semi down there for a month stay at SantaCruz, Matachen Bay, heading S in an old VW wagon for big beachbreaks.

Thought you were scrambling for security, money, and stability?

Don’t forget to look at the dark corners and keep your eyes open for deals!! One of the best perks of the business.

Scramble now, big waves in the future
