Shaping my last Clark blank

I picked up a Clark 7’11"R last Saturday from Mitch’s in Solana Beach, not knowing it would be my last chance to pick up any more Clark blanks. This board is supposed to be a “big boy” shortboard for my son. If I had known that I couldn’t get anymore clark blanks I would have picked a longboard blank for myself.

Most of the boards that I have shaped up to this point have been longboards that I had taken templates off of. I don’t have any short board templates or any short boards to copy one off of so I just worked on the template until it “looked about right”.

My son would like to use the board on head-high to overhead days, mostly at Cardiff. The dimensions right now are N13.5 X W21.5 X T14. Will go about 2"5/8" inch thick. Do the dimensions sound about right? I figure on flat to slight vee through the apex of the nose rocker then going flat to single concave and then at the last third of the board start a double concave to flat off the tail.

I have glassed most of my own boards but I am considering taking this one to Moonlight, don’t want to screw it up!

Will post another picture once I get it shaped.

I saw your glass work at Keith’s house last summer. No reason to go to a pro glass shop.

Funny…you’re the guy I was going to ask questions about epoxy resin…

Keep up the good work

Ray

RandR, what about making this thread “universal”?

Here are my two very last Clark blanks, both almost finished:

A 9’7" longboard gun out of a 9’8"S supergreen.

And a 9’00" classic longboard out of a 9’1"Y three stringers superblue.

Let’s see all of yours’, OK?

Balsa, those boards look so ill. Love 'em both. How did you get the designs in the gun? Fabric? What kind works best?

cheers

blue_h_2_oh, thank you very much for the nice comment. The fabric inlay is silk, but any NATURAL fiber will work OK. (Synthetics may melt with styrene). The lighter, the better, of course. I did a thread on this one recently, but I don’t remember the title. Maybe you can find it… The 3 stringer is a basic tinted resin with a posca pinline.

Balsa, I like your idea about a thread on “last Clark blanks”. The supply will quickly dwindle down and it would be great to see what other Swaylockers (and Swaylurkers) come up with for their final Clark blank.

Really like your triple stringer, how does it ride?

Rick

RandR, I’ll tell you how it rides as soon as it’s finished (wet sanding/polishing hopefully starting today if it’s not too cold) and the friend I made it for rides it… Here’s a shot of the bottom:
