Shaping or glassing help

I know that this might be to much to ask, but I have shaped and glassed one board (4’10" Mini Simmons), but I am only 13. I am planning I making a retro single fin next once I sell an old Takayama I got for free and restored. But anyways back to the point I jumped into shaping and glassing surfboards with little knowlege only from here and you tube videos and I want to make my next board a lot better. Is anyone more experienced than me willing to let me come in and watch them shape or glass a board in the San Diego area. pm or email me at ervinadam@gmail.com. I know this might be to much to ask but the people here seem really nice so I’ll give it a shot. Thanks so much

Aloha Adam,

Welcome aboard.         To the Swaylocks Forum members, give this young man some upvotes, he is eager to learn this craft.         Adam, there is a treasure trove of information to be had through this site  Swaylock’s.      While I started surfing, about your age, I didn’t shape a ‘‘real’’ surfboard until I was seventeen.      Wish I’d started shaping at your age.

Thank you for the warm welcome Bill

Hi Adam, welcome to this den of misguided individuals. Like Bill, I also started surfing when I was your age but didn’t shape my first board until I was 17 (1967).  While I haven’t shaped very many over the years, I’ve glassed quite a few and know my way around poly resin and such.

I’d like to think that someone here who’s near SD would be willing to tutor you to some extent. I am a firm supporter of passing on knowledge to young people. Once we’re gone, the things we know can endure through others.

Hey Adam.  I am from Nova Scotia so I can’t show you anything.  If I were in San Diego, I would head over to Bird’s Surf Shed.  He has a shaping room in back where some pros shape.  There are some young kids that hang out and shape some boards there as well.  Bill T spends some time there as well so you may just bump into him.  If you don’t get any direct invites from people here on Sways, go see Bird.

Yah, I shaped my first board at birds and there was I pro shaper who helped me out with template placing and rail bands but I do not remember his name

I’m on kauai at the moment but in a couple weeks will be home and you are more than welcome to watch boards being shaped and glassed…or to work on one yourself.  Summertime we are always busy at the shaping shack!

Thank you very much and l messaged you
