shaping room

If you were to build a new shaping room what color would you paint the walls? I have been using black fo 30 years but I notice a lot of rooms in blue or combination colors.I seem to get kind of “blind” in my black room…maybe it is because I,m getting old.Any input appreciated.

It’s a bitch growing old. I had to move my shop last year, so I had the opportunity to do some upgrades. I chose a dark blue for two reasons. one, black is just too dark. & they had an abundance of a good blue in the bad mix pile at the local Home depot. It’s like a thick blue tube with the white foam spra’in everywere.

I guess that this is the same Ray that asked me about the Bosch planer …if so call me…glad to help

I guess that this is the same Ray > that asked me about the Bosch planer …if so call me…glad to help I used a semi gloss over a heavy drywall textue. It gets covered with a thin layer of foam dust so it looks flat anyway. about the lights, I built a box around the lights top works as a place to put tools. I also took some roof edge flashing 2"x2" put it over the top edge of the light box to deflect the light more downward. That prevents me from stairing directly at the lights. I also put in overhead lights on a dimmer. this is great when you are templating & cutting out. I will be calling you about the planer.

Wow I didn’t know that you could dim flourecent lights. Is that like a rheostat? I watched Pat Rawson shape a board in Hawaii and when he put the board on edge in the stand to plane the tucked under edge he would turn off the side lights and use the overheads. You got me thinking.thanks

green makes you hungry////////////////

The overhead lights I used were incandecent hallogen can lights. use flood bulbs not spots, dimming flourecents is to expensive.

Come on Gene, Pepto pink! Just think! The boards would …, well never mind. That reminds me. How would you feel about someone planting their dew in the middle of one of your posts???

I say try flat finish, deep blue walls, ceiling and floors speckled with those teeny little reflective silver and white speckles. Toss it into the paint before it dries completely. Then add some ultraviolet grow lights instead of the same as ever 8`-0" white flourescent ones. The U.V. lamps sure are expensive but what else will make those blanks light up and glow like that? As with so many other groovy thangs, the head trip is worth more than the price of admission. It is so cosmically-interior compared to standard black walls and those boring old cool whites. Dharmon, checkin it

??? Your shaping some really beautiful boards lately. And you could do it no matter what color the walls are. I’ll leave the rimes alone …
