Hi all,
I’m partway through shaping my first board, about to begin shaping the bottom contours. The dimensions are 6’0, 12.5 nose, 19.5 wp at centre, 15 tail, with a very low entry and moderate tail kick. I’m hoping to make this board pick up the soft beachbreak that my 6’4x18.5x2.25 pocket-rocket struggles with, and be able to generate enough speed to do some performance manouvers.
I would like to shape in a long shallow single concave running from the entry rocker area straight through the the fins and out the tail. I mapped out the single concave on my 6’4 and noticed that its concave is deepest (1/8") immediately in front of the side fins.
Can anyone suggest a reason for this? My best guess is so that the concave is creating the most lift immediately below the rider. Is this a fairly standard way to orientate a single concave? I would like to incorporate this into my new board, but want to make sure I fully understand how and why it is setup as it is, rather than shaping it that way just because it was like that on my last board.
Also, I’ve been looking at other boards with similar dimesions and trying to decide on fin settings (tri-fin). I’m thinking centre fin 3" from tail, side fins 11.5" from tail and 1.25 from rail, 1/4" toe in, 4 degrees cant. Does this sound ok? Am I even in the right ballpark with those settings?
Thanks,
Daniel
