Share the stoke project idea

The project is to give away surfboards to groms who really need one, but can’t afford it.

I’ve been buying pretty old 8’-9’ longboard that are going for $50 or less. They are not waterlogged but cosmetically look awful. What are good ways to hide the age of the board? I want to cover the deck with a plain color , then cover the bottom with cool art work (making it look like a cutlap), then somehow seal all this. Preferably… not using any resin. What’s the most economical way to do this, so that I can keep doing this as long as possible.

Thanks

Omar,

You can sand them down and spray with acrylic paint. They’ll look like surftechs. Hope you’re not covering up some classic museum pieces. Some of those old boards could be quite valuable with the proper restoration.Mike

Um, one of them have faded, penciled-in wings on the bottom, it’s probably from a crappy shaper anyway.

(ok, just joking, couldn’t help it)

Very funny. OK. I derserved it. Mike

Hi Omar,

Either you could buy paint tins and roller it on or spray it with an airbrush hooked up to a Air compresser or you can use spray cans.

Water-Based Acryllic works best but you can use enamel I’m you seal it without resin. (resin melts enamel).

So first get rid of all old wax and give the boards a good sand! make sure you get all the gunk off. Rub with alchahol before painting to get rid of any dust.

Paint the boards to the disered design then seal with Clear acryllic. you can use a light 220grit sand in between coats and when finished. Buffing with a foam pad is a good extra too.

It’s a great thing your doing and I wish you the best of luck!

Very cool ,

I got some old short boards for free ,fixed the dings and spray painted the boards with Krylon. Took my daughter and all her friends surfing. The kids were young and thought the boards were cool.

Now the kids are older and Ray is making them real boards.
