I was wondering if anyone knows an inexpensive way that I could ship 5 shorboards from Portland, OR to Honolulu, HI? Im moving back there in January, and was planning on taking them on the plane the plane with me but the travel agent said that they might charge me $100 per board. How do the professional shapers ship their boards to customers? thanks for any suggestions.
Aloha airlines last year allowed me to take one 4 board travel bag, 50 bucks each way. I just shipped 6 boards to Surf Garage Plus in Waikiki, economy rate, 236.00$
You can try DHX they have a container ship leave the west coast once a week to Pearl City. Take advantage of boxing 5 at once as it comes out about the same as sending just one. If you can take them on the Airline with you, you may find that to be the best price, but it is a “spin of the wheel” as to how much and what condition they will be in when you get there. Good Luck.
Last winter I had 2 more of my boards(7&8 footers) shipped by DHX, I picked them up at the terminal by the Aloha Tower, by boat, one week, 165.00$
fedex …I recomend low tollerance(sp)packing materials ie not oversize two boards to a box could get down to 40$ a board…ask russell …he sent some from newport…under 9’…total 163 length + girth…ambrose…russell surfboards newport blvd…
