has anyone ordered resin and received throught UPS or similar co? i was wondering what the shipping costs run per 5 gal. of resin. ??
I don’t remember the costs but UPS charges a lot for Hazard Material fees.I order five gallon pails from Fiberglass of Florida and have it shipped by truck(Averrit Motor Freight) and its only around 25 bucks give or take.I pick it up at the terminal to save money. If you are on the east coast you can call Fiberglass of Florida in Rockledge and they will quote the whole deal.Super nice company. yeah, i’m an east coaster…how is their cloth? do most companies have the same quality cloth, or are some better than others? thanks
Fiberglass of Florida has everything that you could possibly need. The two main suppliers for the industry on the east coast are Fiberglass Florida and Atlantic Surfing Materials. If you want Reichold gloss resin you have to use ASM. R. Brucker
Hey Cleanlines, how much are you paying for 5 gallon lam? I paid $84 at Surf Source in Florida, the bummer was shipping cost. I paid a standard $75(!) to have it and a few other small things trucked to Michigan. I later found out that starting at 5 gallons and above they have to truck it (standard fee), but below 5 they can UPS or FEDEX it for a little less. Do you know exactly how much you’re saving by picking it up at the terminal? Sounds like your $25 freight charge is too good to be true, I will have to call Fiberglass of Florida and find out for next time. Thanks for the tip- ryan
I don’t remember exactly its been awhile.I get my resin from another guy that lets me tap his drum nowadays.I only live 300 miles from Fiberglass Florida…you being in Joisy may up the cost.Best to call em. R. Brucker
Whose the Jersey boy? Depending on where you are in Jersey, I may be interested in sharing some of the shipping costs. Im looking to buy some resin very soon myself. Im suprized there is no one in New Jersey to help us out. Anyone in Jersey know of a Co.? If you are interseted Contact me at K
Mahogany Company of Mays Landing Inc. HEADQUARTERS & WAREHOUSES 5450 Atlantic Avenue, Mays Landing, NJ 08330-0099 609-625-8101, fax 609-625-8209 E-mail:info@mahoganycompany.com They pretty much have everything. Don’t know what there shipping rates are, but they are the only place I know of in Jersey.
Thanks!!! I’ll just take a drive, screw shipping. K
$134 with tax for a 5 gallon pail of resin @ Mahogany. little pricey for resin and cloth. where is Atlantic Surf Materials located?
melbourne, FL 800-327-7516 or 321-676-447 a couple of weeks ago the guy @ Surf Source was telling my wife they had a few more shops open up in various places. seems like CA, NC and Oz were mentioned, she can’t remember exactly. my suggestion is call them and find out if one is closer to you # in FL is 904-247-0808.
Mahogany is expensive compared to companies like Surf Source, Fiberglass Supply, and US Fiberglass, but for smaller orders it can be the least expensive option considering the hazardous materials charges on resin and catalyst with shipping. With smaller orders try purchasing and picking up the resin and catalyst from Mahogany and having the nonhazardous materials shipped from wherever. That has worked well for me in the past.
Maybe its just me but I have always had pretty good luck buying stuff from other factories.Just be humble, have your own containers, buy lunch, and have cash. You may be surprised at how nice these folks are.Worth a try. R. Brucker
Bring your own containers??? Is that even legal for transporting? Your not talking about rolling up with a couple of 2.5 gallon buckets are you??? I havn’t worked with or purchased the stuff yet…but that just sounds odd. I would think most companies would already sell resin in smaller containers for those that require it. I think im definately gonna check out the Mahogony Company. Does anyone know if they are open on Saturdays(the Mays Landing facility), I’d hate to take of work just to get some resin? Thanks again I’ll have to let you guys know how it goes. Kevin
Nah I wasn’t talking about resin suppliers…more about surfboard factories.I can go down to Clay Bennett Surfboards in Jax Fla and he will sell me stuff if I have a can to put it into. R.B.
