Just sold a fish on Ebay so l can make another one & need to ship it from Victoria to Cairns. Anyone had experience or know of any cheap & reliable freight companies l could use, road freights fine.

All the one’s l’ve called charge by cubic metre which works out to about 60kgs instead of the 6-8 kgs it actually is & charge anything from $170 up to $400

The cheapest so far is via Greyhound bus - $125

Have you tried contacting Jetstar and Virgin and asking them about freight?

Problem is this guy claims he’s had boards shipped to Cairns from Vicco before

& he’s paid no more than $90 (which l find find hard to believe) but conveniently can’t remember the name of the company.

U-huh. Right.

Have your tried any of the bigger courier and shipping organisations. Can probably get cheaper through them if you are clear that it only has to arrive by the end of the month (for example). Ask how much extra for insurance and then tell the guy both prices.

Just my thoughts based on little experience shipping boards.

Hang around Tullamarine near where the check in is, daily flights from Melbourne to Cairns, ask around especially an hour before the flight leaves.

Maybe put an ad in the paper, how does Cairns get their produce shipped etc.

What’s he going to do with a fish in Cairns…???

Try TNT in vicco. Box of 5 for about $100aus. If you want to take it to the airport go with Virgin.

Haven’t really got the time to hang around the airy due to work commitments &

l’m doing the guy a favor as it is. l clearly stated in the ad that interstate freight

was at buyers expense & quoted $100 as a guide only (which isn’t far off)

Basically the guys bought the board without looking into the freight costs.

What’s he going to do with a fish in Cairns…???

He must work away alot as he’s in PNG at the moment which is why l’m doing

all the bloody running around - seems to be able to reply to emails but not

organize freight??

TNT quoted me $165 for one and my work has an account with them!!

Virgin quoted $150!!

2 easy. call fastway $66 door to door.

Tried them, they won’t take it because the cubic weight works out to 63kgs

based on the size of the parcel even though the board wouldn’t be more than 10kg

its based on L x W x H. their max is 25kgs.

Antsville, my friend Mike the manager for Maurice Cole was here and gave me that info. He said he sends boxes of 5 boards for around $100.

Your mates probably got contract rates due to the volume he sends

(does he ship many to Cairns) or puts them on a pallet & loads / unloads with a fork.

Just call and book the pickup from Fastway. I was told the same thing when I called the main number so I called the shaper who had sent me 3 boards already and confirmed that he did use Fastway (figured I must have called the wrong people). I booked the pickup and the board was off to Tazzie from Sydney for 66 bucks no questions asked.

Waves in cairns. yes there is , but it has to blow its arse out. The break is called RATSHIT BAY, the name says it all. how ever I have a mate who is the engineer on a goverment boat Won’t say the name. Well he sent me a video of his from a reef up there that the boat people always get caught at . the name fails me but anyway it cranks .

Maybe, next time give them a call and ask them who their freight company is.
