I’ve heard the Rusty Flex (Rainbow Fin Co.) is proven. I just ordered one and I’ll let you know the results.>>> for the shifty, mushy beachbreak surf we live on in north FL the winged > keel (starfin) is the call. quick out of the gate, lots of drive, seems to > have an extra gear or two (top end speed) when driven properly in lined up > waves.>>> jim dunlop

An egg shape will still be a fun ride in those mushy days as well as an interesting board on the little bigger days, but not to large. A single fin that is narrower shaped more like the modern shortboard is gonna be for more of the punchier days, when the waves have some push. Some of my funnest days, are 3-5 foot hollow beachbreak, an a single-fin shaped like those Joel tudor “Good Kharma’s” It totally gives you a new feel for the waves.

Also, since it has no rake, the turns can be quicker pivot type. If you want to carve a turn you really have to know how to use your rails. Worth trying. I use mine on longboards and a smaller egg-type. Rob Olliges

ok so seeing as heaps of people are getting back into singlefin eggs and > shortboards 6-7ft. what style of single fins have you guys found to work > best for a shortboard. a friend of mine (around 40 years of age) recently test rode, then purchased one of those single fin, Rob Machado boards.(by Al Merrick). He has ridden it in reef and beach breaks and absolutely digs it!Says he can’t wait to get it into some point waves. He claims it’s loose yet has drive, paddles great, and just feels solid underfoot.>>> geezer

ive seen a picture of the true ames flex fin the one that seems toalmost be a half circle its got so much rake that was the one i was thinking of. is that an all round fin or just for points

The board im going to make is 6’8’ x 20.5’ x 16’nose x 15’ round pin. I found a picture of the true ames flex fin on the net, has the most rake that ive seen in a fin. Looks good just dont know whether to go for the 8’ or the 9’. is that fin good in puchy beachbreaks and points or is it suited to a certain type of wave. I notice it is similar to the one joel tudor has on one of his eggs in The Seedling.
