Can’t help to notice how under-emphasized shaping stands are considered as a tool. There’s nothing worse for the entry-level shaper to suffer thru than lightweight and wobbly stands.
So…SHOW US YOUR STANDS! And help the newbies.
See attached pic…mine are made from heavy duty X-mas tree bases filled with wire-reinforced poured concrete. The upper arms are fully/individually adjustable for height and leveling. Very functional. These are my third generation.
I have limited space in my garage, and don’t want to have to store a pair of big heavy stands in between surfboard projects. I just use a couple of saw horses. It isn’t the ideal situation, but I’m just working on my first board. I’m learning as I go along. For the rails I put together a couple of simple holders that clamp onto my workbench. I used paper towels for padding.
