There are some amazing craftsmen on swaylocks and some of them do wonderful things with wood also.
I thought it would be great to have a thread that focuses on all wooden boards, wood/foam combo’s, wooden fins, nose/tail blocks, leash loops etc… ANYTHING!
There has been alot posted previously but to have alot of it on one thread would be cool, not to mention handy.
My skills improved…after doing the top board I learned that it’s best to seal the wood with epoxy first before glassing the whole thing with epoxy. The stringer on the bottom board is balsa (because it was free) with fake airbrushed redwood to hide the backyard glue up…could have fooled you…ha , ha…
I’ll try and post a few shots one by one… if my computer skills are up to it. This is the tail of a 9’7" double-ender that I shaped for myself this past summer. The fin is a OneWorld by Juan Rodriguez using mahagony and an unusual pine.
Nice thread! Good to see all that wood and the various applications. I think I have seen that Dave Sweet a few years back. I especially like Stingray’s work and his ability to “faux” things when necessary. Very good stuff. Lowel
I was pretty stoked on the book matching of the paulownia. Never saw paulownia with that much figure. I’ve never sourced anymore since. It was an ebay fluke- some guy selling off leftovers from a project.
Hicksy that thing is BEAUTIFULL!! Love the artwork too!!
This is my latest wooden creation: board number three of my oiled-boards series. It is a paipo made from a piece of wood i found some time ago: about 4/5 inch thick, so no flex at all. It’s heavy too!
I used the warping the wood already had when i found it: in the movieclip you can see the concave running from nose to tail, and there is a little nose rocker as well.
The oil brings out the grain beautifully (not applied yet in the pictures, but you can see it in here)
